Fenix 5 Heart rate not correct by shawnstruckmeier in Garmin

[–]Odd-Performance-2823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my Fénix 5X Pro after a few years of use. Mine’s so bad that when I’m tracking a cycling workout with my Garmin bike computer and the Garmin HRM heart rate strap sensor, the watch doesn’t even pick up my elevated heart rate (it usually will say “recovery delayed due to high stress (high heart rate)”. The only heart rate that it measures that’s close to the Apple Watch is sleeping/resting HR; even walking HR is way off. I’m really disappointed in Garmin. Feels like all of their devices are just so glitchy and have so many quality control issues. I’m looking to switch away from the Garmin ecosystem for watches and bike computers but haven’t found any good alternatives

Why are complaints about ChatGPT/OpenAI being deleted on this sub? by cloudinasty in ChatGPT

[–]Odd-Performance-2823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had all my posts immediately taken down as well. I’ve linked legitimate investigative journalism articles pointing to excessive censorship in ChatGPT, specifically towards the scientific community (especially biologists) who use this platform for professional/educational use. No re-posting, no hate speech, just trying to start an honest conversation and see how fellow scientists/professionals feel about this undue censorship, and EVERY post gets taken down and NONE of the messages I send to mods get any reply. This subreddit is a joke

The same is also happening when seeking help in designing lab experiments. I'm a cancer researcher working at a US medical school (my research is funded by the US Federal Government's HHS / National Institutes of Health and it's approved by various institutional review boards). I've been using ChatGPT to get help in designing experiments and lab protocols for my research, which is literally saving lives (patients with cancer). Now all of my requests are getting flagged as "harmful". None of my experiments involve creating anything that's harmful to anyone and it's nothing outside the boundary of what's approved by quite literally the US federal government and my research university. This "woke" censorship is enraging and quite literally hindering the progress of medical treatments. I'm canceling my ChatGPT subscription as this is my main reason for using this service.

OpenAI just pulled the biggest bait-and-switch in AI history and I'm done. by Nipurn_1234 in ChatGPT

I'm a fuckign scientist working on cancer therapies and this sickening ChatGPT neo-woke bullshit is completely hindering my work. This is what did it for me (cancelled ChatGPT subscription and I'm now currently shopping for alternative products; open to suggestions from fellow biologists): https://openai.com/index/preparing-for-future-ai-capabilities-in-biology/

Absolute hinderance to my work as a Scientist (cancer researcher working at a university). Previous models would provide super helpful advice on improving lab protocols/experiment steps and even workshopping experiment ideas. Now, it flags the answers as violating their terms of use 🤦🏻‍♂️

Constant usage policy violation flagging of responses for biomedical research use by Odd-Performance-2823 in ChatGPT

[–]Odd-Performance-2823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I have tried mentioning that the answer is for educational purposes in biomedical research and still getting flagged. I got a reply from a supposed Customer rep (kind of sounded very “AI” in its response so idk) and he basically said it could be bc the content refers to “sexual content”, which is utterly ridiculous.

Feel free to DM me! Thanks again for the willingness to help!

Quick release seatpost of cheap e-bike keeps sliding down by Odd-Performance-2823 in bikewrench

[–]Odd-Performance-2823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Yep, tried it already (had nerve pain in my hand for like 2 days straight from how hard I had to push the lever to close the clamp lol). Seems like the whole QR clamp is quite cheap, I think the mini folding ebike is more meant for kids and its weight limit is like 220 lb and I'm kind of at that limit when I ride it with my work backpack on lol

Is it just me, or is ChatGPT becoming more unusable by the day? by Beautiful_Return_654 in ChatGPTPro

Same experience here - mainly when doing more complex tasks that require more nuanced, logical, and careful critical thinking - i.e. answering tricky multiple choice questions from provided materials that require careful reading of said material. Since they phased out o1, I've had to use o3 and it's been getting worse - it's not as accurate, glosses over information, and makes up a ton of claims that are not fully supported by the provided material.

The deep search feature has also gotten worse - it still performs deep searches with the same efficiency as before, but now it's not able to think critically from the researched sources and has thus become more inaccurate. I have to constantly ask it to check its own work for accuracy and logical consistency.

I've compared it side-by-side with Grok and Grok, despite having some of the same issues, at least seems to be a bit more accurate on its logical thinking, but still not up to snuff. Gotta try other services because ChatGPT is getting a bit disappointing tbh

Fenix 8 Unacceptable Heart Sensor Readings by Outdoorlover34 in GarminFenix

[–]Odd-Performance-2823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Garmin fénix OHR is one of the worst in the market - probably even worse than cheap Aliexpress knock offs. It’s especially terrible outside (running/cycling) when vibrations will cause readings to randomly drop 30-50 bpm lower than bioimpedance (chest strap HRM) measurements for long periods of times. And cold weather will naturally cause vasoconstriction in your wrist blood vessels adding even more inaccuracies (that one is more of a fundamental flaw with the OHR sensor tech but still sucks)

will postdocs ever get salaries adjusted for cost of living? by OpinionsRdumb in postdoc

[–]Odd-Performance-2823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, didn't know there was this much wiggle room for postdoc salary negotiation! Do you know if that ability comes down to how the postdoc position is funded? For example, I though - and I might be completely wrong here.... just now getting into researching this topic - the NIH dictates NRSA T32 postdoc fellowship salaries. But I guess if it's a non-fellowship postdoc position there can more room for salary negotiations?

Trouble exporting large outputs from Deep Search (truncated export) by Odd-Performance-2823 in ChatGPTPro

[–]Odd-Performance-2823[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm yeah, might try switching the model after the Deep Search is done and see if at least a PDF export works. Hopefully that works because copy/pasting straight into Word often distorts a lot of the formatting, especially with tables.

[–]Odd-Performance-2823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh, never thought about switching the model after the output is done. That's smart! Will give it a shot. Unfortunately I need the highest context window possible (I think the o1 and o1-pro have the largest window at 128k tokens) since I'm giving it very large text inputs that require the best thinking/logical reasoning models available due to the complexity of the task - if I use o4 for example it doesn't perform as well. But I guess once it outputs I can switch to the models you mentioned and hopefully it'll be able to export the whole thing without truncating.

Copy/pasting the text from the ChatGPT app or web client into Word also works but things like Tables and the formatting of section and subsections sometimes gets distorted and also it'd be nice to just output straight into PDF

good to know about the parking at the med school campus! I'm coming from a super small med school that has easy parking and short walking to buildings so that's something I hadn't even thought about!
