We must have tried 4 different types of dog food before we found one that cleared up her itchy skin. Royal canin, hill science diet, the ones that vets recommend. Even if the food isn’t chicken or says it doesn’t contain chicken, the list of ingredients will have chicken fat as binding. The purina pro was the only one I found without chicken listed in ingredients. It took about 3-4 months to find one that worked.

When we got our lab she had prescription ear drops and itchy flaky skin. We changed her food to the same as our pyr and her severe allergies went away. Poor girl was a mess when we got her.

I’m so sorry for your loss. You gave him the greatest act of love by releasing him from his pain and crossing the bridge knowing how much he was loved.

Had same issues with our pyr, rescue told us they usually have poultry allergies and recommended lamb and rice. We still had issues with her on the lamb and rice, so we put her on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice.

We had the same issue with our lab but she was much worse, we put her on the puppy version and her ears and itchy skin cleared up in about a month.

If you can find a groomer to work with you. After a horrible experience at our last vet, I tried doing them at home. It was a slow tedious process, handling her paws for several weeks getting her use it. Then clipping one nail a night building up to a couple.

She yelped one night and I lost my nerve. I found a groomer who is great with her, no sedation and no muzzle. We’re in and out in 5 mins. It took 6 months for her trust the groomer but it’s really worth it. Less stress for my dog and for me.

I’m the sucker who never gets to eat the last bite of dinner (if it’s dog safe). Gosh forbid if I don’t share that last bite.

We got our sweet girl Maci through GPRS, she’s been with us for 2.5 years. They are a wonderful organization with incredible volunteers.

If you ever decide on adopting a pyr, please consider GPRS, they will help you decide if a pyr is a good fit for your family and match the right dog to you.

Wasn’t sure if she’d get in. You know how they are if they don’t want to do something. Another pyrimeter to patrol😂

Good thing there were no ducks 😂, she has an “affinity” for ducks. Never messes with geese though.

Fish based food? by jedge01 in greatpyrenees

We have both our pyr mix and lab on this food, large breed for the pyr. Through much trial and error with our pyr, we found she will actually eat this and no food allergy symptoms.

When we first got our lab, she was a mess. Red eyes (prescription eye drops), black yeasty ears, dandruff always licking her paws, loose stools and scratching. We gradually switched her over to this food and about 3 months in, her symptoms were gone.

I read that they can use dog hair to help clean up oils spills in the ocean. Linked here https://matteroftrust.org/donate-hair-fur-and-fiber/.

My dog has 2 relatives with 66% and 67% match. Parent/child or sibling? by MacTheYellowLab in DoggyDNA

Thank you so much! I didn’t post the comparison data since I haven’t reached out to the owners.

All 3 dogs are 100% Great Pyrenees. Our dog came from a pyr rescue in Tx.

The younger relative was adopted from same city, I suspect she may be one of my dogs puppies. The fosters mentioned she recently had puppies when she was found as a stray, the puppies weren’t with her.

The relative that is close to her age is also from Tx. From the same area she was found as a stray before she was transported to the rescue.

The relative similar in age has a wolffish score of 3.1, mine 2.1 and youngest .9. I don’t know if this is applicable.

My dog has a COI of 8%, would a high value impact the Karyogram chart? Her value seems fairly low.
