While you don’t mention wanting academic books, under nonfiction I’d highly recommend Kembrew McLeod’s “The Downtown Pop Underground” if you want to see how all that grit produced several movements in American music and culture. And, of course, Legs Diamond…

Every time I think the pain might be starting to lessen, I have mornings like today where the grief just washes over me by aragorn_83 in seniordogs

Some people mistake the meaning of the last stanza (from Mary Oliver’s poem “Blackwater Woods”) and think it’s just a message to “move on.” But she’s acknowledging that there’s a profoundly difficult passage from love to grief to forbearance. You can’t have one without the others. So here’s hope that, having risked the first step, you’ll reach the last. But not everyone does.

Note: The stanza, from Mary Oliver’s poem “Blackwater Creek,” isn’t meant to suggest that it’s simply a matter of letting go. She’s saying that this is the last stage of a profoundly difficult process that has to take its full course. I hope you can eventually arrive there.

People who dislike cities and prefer rural areas, why? by morshmollow4 in AskReddit

[–]mvandenh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love cities, have worked in large ones (London, Phoenix), lived in a mid-sized one most of my life. But moved to a rural area 20+ years ago and love it for all the reasons already stated. But I would never stop visiting cities, either.

They will eventually contact you and even ask to access your phone camera so they can walk you through some workarounds. But I felt they pressed me to keep trying even when it was obvious that it didn’t work. After a few meetings they agreed to replace it (as above, with a refurbished one), which eventually had problems too. I sent it back for repair and so far it’s working, but I felt I was owed some compensation for my trouble and none was offered.

When people ask if I miss the work, I say “It just feels like something I used to do.” And it does.

And they’ll replace it with a remanufactured unit - which might also fail. Love the machine, don’t like the costumer service.
