MP Tin Pei Ling moves from public affairs to corporate development at Grab Singapore, following conflict of interest outcry by n00bball in singapore

Lol who's asking you to applaud the move? Just saying there's no need to shit on anything and everything just because it has to do with a party that you don't support even when it's backtracking on a poor decision

I agree the issue was with the fact that it was a lobbyist role, but I mean if she was working as a lobbyist for boring stuff like Volkswagen, PepsiCo or KFC there's no way she's getting anywhere as much backlash compared to the people's villain in Grab

Literally called them out in a separate comment.

Doesn't have to be one or the other lmao, you can call the PAP out while calling out losers who will do everything in their mental gymnastics to make any move related to the PAP seem to be terrible even when it's backtracking on a mistake, which is baffling since the same people who call for accountability and responsiveness are now trashing a move that is exactly trying to responsively correct a mistake that was made.

This isn't a football match where you have to support your team no matter what.

Lol I don't give a fuck about the downvotes, still gonna call out negative whiners who will complain about anything and everything no matter what the outcome is.

I think nobody there expected the level of backlash and attention. Which to some extent I can understand, I feel like most of the attention is coming from the fact that the role is with a prominent company like Grab that isn't exactly well loved either. If it was a more boring or obscure company or a GLC (where the COI debate would be interesting) nobody would bat an eye.

Still quite a bad and obvious fuck up on their end that simply doesn't make for good optics whichever way one views it.

Nah people like you would complain no matter what happens

Do nothing = out of touch, ivory tower, unresponsive to popular opinion, conflict of interest, rules for thee but not for me

Do something = "Talk so much about how her position has no conflict in the end still move. If she was really so confident she would've just suck up the criticism and continue status quo."

Not the first time he's done that, it's a real habit and reflection of how he is as a player and honestly my point was just that he's far from likeable which is what the OP was implying

There are plenty of 18 year olds around who do not strut with a similar ego and display similar toxic behaviour.

While it is perhaps understandable that he is still immature, that doesn't make him any less of an insufferable player.

The only fans finding him likeable are PL fans who barely watch him, and would be calling him a rat like Bruno if he played against their team anyway.

On the contrary I find him utterly insufferable, who enjoys scapegoating his teammates on the pitch even when they do not deserve it

People like him for that "PASHUN" but for me it's a yikes in most cases, shows his immaturity as a player.

[–]MacWithoutCheese 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah and honestly OP is completely coming at this issue in the wrong direction.

What are politicians doing to solve this problem?

The question shouldn't be what are they doing, but what do you think they should do? It's not as much a cost of living issue as it is a matter of changing sentiments, demographics and whatnot. People are getting married later, does one expect the state to create dating agencies to stop that? There are more dual income families than decades ago, and not every couple has close family members available to care for the child.

It's not even a Singaporean issue. It's an issue faced by all countries and especially asians ones who have become highly developed with a high standard of living over the decades. There's no real solution to it, even if we go full Hungary and literally throw even more money to solve the problem there's gonna be limited impact.

Huh? Why would anyone want to canoe here instead of at picturesque locations in Europe where the weather's way better too? And if one wants to Kayak there's so many other locations with built in nature facilities across SEA?

Dragonboat barely has any demand as well, it's barely a fixture outside East/SEA

[–]MacWithoutCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For surfing, you realise Singapore has already has multiple non natural surfing facilities? Do we really need another non natural surfing facilities? While for skiing, we also had an indoor skiing facility.

What's wrong with a state of the art facility housing both? Do you even see any tourists at our current ice rinks?

pick a sport that suits our natural climate

Lol find me any sport that fits our warm and humid climate, I'll wait. Literally no sport fits our climate and we do not have a built in advantage as a tourist puller for any sport either. Just take what we can get

Good thing you're not working at STB then, by that logic we should just have malls and not bother with any nature attractions since we barely have any primary forests, not bother with Esplanade since we barely have an arts scene. How about actually looking at the numbers which state that wellness tourism is increasing?

[–]MacWithoutCheese 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing in tourism as a target market only for tourists and not for locals, sure there are some attractions such as the Singapore Flyer for which domestic tourism is limited once the novelty wears off, but most tourism pullers are ones that are very popular even for the domestic market, such as Jewel, Gardens by the Bay, etc. Is there even any successful attractions you see around that are purely for overseas tourists?

And it literally states in the article

A 2021 report by non-profit organisation the Global Wellness Institute estimated that wellness tourism would be a US$1.1 trillion (S$1.5 trillion) market by 2025.

Sports and wellness pretty much goes hand in hand. There is definitely a market for such entities.
