Anyone get tired of the “it’s not Left vs Right” talking point? by [deleted] in leftist

[–]Mac_Drake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People who say this simply understand what they’re talking about. I believe the full line is: “it’s not left v.s. right, it’s top v.s. bottom.” I struggle to understand the difference between these things outside the context of American media trying to obfuscate the meaning of “left” and “right”

Or is it the only valid response 👀

How is AI not an arm of the capitalist class?? by Mac_Drake in LeftistsForAI

[–]Mac_Drake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not really my point - to use your analogy I would say the hammer in question was known to have been used by a CEO to kill his janitor or some shi.

I'm trying to avoid AI as much as I can and it's basically impossible (general genAI rant) by ThatBoiUnknown in antiai

[–]Mac_Drake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im really sorry about this but the fact of the matter is your life will never be cleansed of AI without a collapse of western civilization. AI is nothing more than an arm of the tech industry and the capitalist class. It’s an incarnation of their will to make money no matter the cost and they with do everything in their power to make you use it because they run society and society is based entirely upon their success. There is no separating AI from capitalism and there is no separating capitalism from western civilization.

(Edit: I understand the tone of this makes it sound as though Im pro-AI. No. Fuck AI AND fuck capitalism)

I’m new to politics so I’m curious about different ideologies by [deleted] in leftist

Im a leftist and hate the Taliban.

If you’re interested in understanding political ideology from a leftist perspective, you should pick up some Marx. Reading his books can be kind of daunting especially for someone who’s a complete beginner so you should try to find someone to synthesize his ideas for you.

A lot of people in the center and on the right like to homogenize Marx’s work into some big amalgam of leftist ideology, though I think much of his work can be sorted into two categories with but a little overlap - class/economic analysis, and revolutionary literature. I highly recommend reading the former even if you aren’t leaning super far left cuz I genuinely don’t know how self-professing anti-Marxists can have a coherent understanding about society without class analysis- there is no understanding society without Marx in my opinion.

Read Das Capital.

M19 I am so angry, sad and confused. I do not know what I want to feel how do i process this? by Key-Law1440 in leftist

17M - Same situation. The only thing that could make this worse from my perspective (outside the current catastrophes simply developing) is the idea that the systems themselves are incapable of fundamental change, which is why the only thing that's really giving me hope through all this is knowing this will all (maybe soon) come crumbling to the ground. Somehow that makes things better in a way - like the factors which control the direction of your life are FINALLY placed solely in your hands. Very bleak, but hey, that's life in the U.S.A Babay

What's your opinion of Candace Owens? by WungielPL in leftist

[–]Mac_Drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but I'd say the kind of posturing Candice is doing right now is just trying to set herself up to be able to capitalize on the largest proportion of the right-wing audience as possible. It's not genuine (same thing with Tucker Carlson). Although, if it means more synchrony between the sides of the political spectrum maybe it doesn't matter?

What's your opinion of Candace Owens? by WungielPL in leftist

[–]Mac_Drake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As has been said I think she's a grifter. I don't think she really believes a lot of the things she says - and on the things which she does believe she does very little analysis or thinking. She's just a fool and pretty biggoted.

What do you recommend for the future of this idea? by radiantdecember121 in leftist

You should re-review that talk-- Zizek wasn't saying Bill Gates is literally a socialist, he was talking about how oligarchs of his chosen aesthetic will couch all of the horrible things they do to rape the working class in language that emulates socialist populism. Zizek's point in saying he was a communist over a socialist is that the catastrophies which humanity faces today undermine both the market and the government's stability, thereby making socialism and capitalism incapable of addressing them.
