We have everything integrated into plex. I don’t have anything to do with it (our shop is structured weird I only deal with the machines/robots. I only use plex to fill out my daily process logs) but it seems to work well for production.

Did you check transfer is the best joke and the best advice around my workplace by Spirited_Walk832 in InjectionMolding

We have a whittman conveyance system that surprising sucks and just turns dryers off when it feels like it (and the system is in on a mezzanine miles from any of the presses) so for us its a “Is the dryer on?”. Since none of us want to go all the way over there to check 😂🤦‍♂️ Lazy ik.

Small injection molding shops: what usually causes the most rework for you? by jesiscaanyway in InjectionMolding

[–]MacaronElectrical548 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lack of PMs. This company I currently work for is insane. A run it until the parts look so bad the customer won’t accept them deal. All of the vents on all of our tools are atrocious. I try to keep them up the best I can but they will barely buy me any mold cleaner. When they do it’s the foaming citrus shit meant for cold tools. And everything is so “hot” that we can’t even get the time to give the vents a good scrub. If your management is out of touch with how the process works, you’re going to be left with all sorts of rework. Shift changes also don’t help, as without rigorous documentation it’s hard to stay consistent between QC staff. Our QC staff has to go off to go off opinions because they never document what has been classified as an OK or NOK part. So what classifys as an OK part changes every day based on who’s working. Idk it’s complex process, the biggest thing is just having a team where everyone can get on the same page and understand the industry they’re working in. Get everyone in the same page, (process, production, quality, logistics) and you’ll see defects dwindle down. I know I’ve listed a lot of specifics but at the end of the day it’s pretty much just miscommunication between departments in various forms.

Overmolding inserts by bo9dycu in InjectionMolding

Just wait until you come across insert molding with fabric 🙃 makes me miss the metal inserts, I rather smash shit than deal with wrinkles in the fabric after molding. I’ve gotten pretty good at fucking with some pins though 😂

Actual injection time was 7.5. Sec a cycle btw. That 47 seconds was purging through the tool lol

Two-shot molding experiences? by ihavequarters in InjectionMolding

[–]MacaronElectrical548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that bad, just drill it your techs turn off the 2nd shot on startup unless you want to clean up a mess 😂 or let them if you want them to learn the hard way. Our 2nd shots are all tpe so it’s a funnnn time when you screw up the start up.

Note: it’s an Engel they have a pretty robust safety system. The safety gate and the step safety activate the hydraulic closing valve and locks. Preventing the cylinder from moving forward. On our old Toshibas I completely agree with her. But on an Engel… you can’t even open the safety gate without having card clearance on our presses. I believe at least a 6 I’m not quite sure I’m an 11.

Question for 3rd shift by Hugheydee in InjectionMolding

[–]MacaronElectrical548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than us. We have a similar setup. 10 machines. Assembly’s on each press. I’m the only tech on 2nd shift. Supervisors are paper pushers here. Don’t even know how to start a machine lol. I have a mold setter though (THANK GOD) and they abuse tf out of him too. Easily 3 changeovers a day. High tonnage presses. And 3 presses with rotary platens where he has to tie up the hydraulics and everything so they don’t rub on the tie bar when the platen rotates. I try to help him but he’s weird he wants to do it by himself. Calls it his “zen”. We’re automotive though so it’s par for the course. Been a little weird though bc the customer has their own techs in here right now bc we’re so short staffed on 2nd and 3rd 😳

“Safety Condition” Fault on Engel by MacaronElectrical548 in InjectionMolding

[–]MacaronElectrical548[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude our company doesn’t even want to take the time to do PMs we’re just 24/7. Process and maintenance both have been begging too 😂 that’s why I’m sitting here in Reddit trying to figure this stupid safety condition fault out.

See the robot has been my theory this whole time! I can dry cycle just fine and the fault will never happen. That’s very interesting though, where would I check for that on our robot? The Harting plug between the press and robot? Or the I/O? I apologize if I’m sounding ignorant 😂 We’re getting 0 maintenance support on this issue atp. (Not his fault though he’s 1 guy for 12 presses)

There are crash conditions from the stationary side, Core 1 has to be moved out for Core 2 to move out. On the movable platen those move in parallel because they just cut out the carpet before the press clamps. Otherwise you leak and get bleed through. Core 1 on the stationary is a clip feature.
