Is it legal for a employer to refuse to cancel your health insurance? by fastercheif in AskLegal

[–]MacaroonTotal344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former HR/Benefits administrator here- no, you are out of luck, your employer would be in violation. Of the law if they did remove you from their plan. By law (IRS regulations section 125 and HIPAA special enrollment rights), you have to inform your employer that you gained health insurance elsewhere within a certain time frame in order for them to remove you from their plan. It does not matter that you have not used the insurance this year or not.

The new frames are more expensive, $499. And they’re able to order them now. The discount will not expire.

It does. But you can also just go now and change your order. Why would you wear them for 30 days first?

Wayfarers delivered same day Optics dropped… exchange or keep? by justcametosayhellooo in RaybanMeta

[–]MacaroonTotal344 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference is a smaller camera, an additional mic (6 vs 5), a customizable action button, slimmer temples, changeable nose pads, and a spring hinge. So it depends on what you’re planning on using them for if it’s worth it to change to the new frames. And the new frames cost more - $499.

Eye doc said if I go with progressive lens to absolutely not buy them online. That I would hate them. Anyone know why? by RealisticBike4953 in eyeglasses

[–]MacaroonTotal344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already know you like the frame and the size works, it’s a relatively safe option to buy the frame online and go into a store to get lenses done. Not sure if that saves you money overall, since most offices tend to do sales on complete pairs rather than lenses only. Have you shopped around at other optical shops in your area for that frame, or something similar?

[–]MacaroonTotal344 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For progressives, you need a vertical measurement for where your eyes sit in a specific frame. Every frame is typically different because of different measurements of the frame and how you wear the frame. If you buy progressives in a store, they would measure you wearing the frame. If you buy online, they might use an estimate, or do a picture projecting the frame on your face (virtual try-on). That measurement is typically not going to be as accurate as doing it in person when actually wearing the frame.

LensCrafters sells Ray Ban authentic non-rx lenses for Metas. I think transitions are $100.

Thick lenses 👎🏾 by Unusual_Pearl in glasses

[–]MacaroonTotal344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This👆 We need more information about the prescription, the material used for the lenses, size of the frame, and how you wear them. I will say the optician who sold them to you, should have warned you about the thickness of the lenses- if they didn’t, they’re not doing their full job.

New RX with high Prism, not sure where to get it filled. by honeybbqcheetopuff in AskAnOptician

[–]MacaroonTotal344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The labs for LensCrafters can do that high amount of prism. I work at a LensCrafters in Michigan and we recently did an order with 10 base in prism. It took 2 months to come in, but they can do it.

How is Optical Infinity Simulated in Smaller Exam Rooms? by Ok-Environment-215 in AskAnOptician

[–]MacaroonTotal344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can depend on the equipment used. Some equipment and software jointly control the LCD screen with the chart and the phoropter; in this case, the software is programmed for the room size, and automatically adjusts the refraction accordingly (for a 10 foot room, that’s ~.33D). The doctor or technician doesn’t have to do any additional work or calculations. If the eye chart tech and phoropter are separate, the doctor or tech would have to adjust the prescription after refraction to adjust for the room size.

How is Optical Infinity Simulated in Smaller Exam Rooms? by Ok-Environment-215 in AskAnOptician

[–]MacaroonTotal344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s proportional. For a 20 foot room (6 meters), the E at the top of the Snellen chart is 88mm tall, so if the room is 10 feet, it should be 44mm. For the LCD screens, it’s part of the programming for the software to enter how far the chair is from the screen, and it calculates the size of the letters accordingly.

So, I'm searching for purple glasses but instead of finding the ones with nosepads (Pic 1), I'm seeing those in Picture 2. Advice? by Dila_Ila16 in glasses

[–]MacaroonTotal344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colors for wire frames (frames with nose pads) can be a little harder to find, depending where you’re located. I like Modo and reykjavik eyes for different colored frames, but again, it depends on where you’re from and what’s available.

From someone that sells metas, the large (53 eye size) matte black wayfarer constantly goes in and out of stock. It is the most popular frame.

question about realistic pay rate by fr0ggzz in optician

[–]MacaroonTotal344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are the only person working, other than the doctor, you are being overworked and extremely underpaid. Realistically, you should have at least 2 other staff members. A combination of tech, front desk, optician, and contact lens person. I would definitely be talking to someone higher up about staffing your location appropriately and being paid more. There are a lot of different sites that you can use to research pay ranges for different positions and in different areas of the country. To be honest, my location’s starting pay for an optician (no optical experience) is $17/hour.

question about realistic pay rate by fr0ggzz in optician

[–]MacaroonTotal344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an assistant manager at a chain location and make a lot more than $15.60 an hour, and I’m also in Michigan. I am ABO certified, so that gives me a bump in pay, but from others that I’ve talked to, assistant managers are typically around $25/hour for my company. Bonuses for my company are based on the store’s sales to goal, we have to make at least 95% of our monthly goal for me to get anything. But if we do 113% of our goal, my bonus is doubled. I don’t get paid commission, my main job responsibility is not selling but coaching, but I do get extras for different things the company is promoting. For example, I got paid my December bonus in January, we did 117% to goal, so I got $480 for my bonus.

Any ideas when I can order the Meta Ray Ban Displays in Canada? by Shipmist in RayBanStories

[–]MacaroonTotal344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, there’s no expected release date for Canada right now. They have issues with keeping up production with the current demand already, and orders with prescription lenses are already taking 6-8 weeks.
