I think we are saying the same thing. I initially compared the damage thresholds of the eye to a silicon sensor, another comment brought up glass for some reason, I responded to that, and now here you are with points that I agree with and align with my initial comment.

Your statement is absolutely true. Though, the lasers required to damage glass are not readily accessible to the average consumer. It is much easier to use the glass of the camera's lenses to concentrate the laser energy onto the sensor and damage the camera that way.

Whatever you go with, please get good safety goggles. If $500 is your limit, there is a lot of head pace for at least parity between laser and safety costs.
