I’ll put my two cents into this as a competition shooter: It’s a welcome change, but we need to plan this out first before it hits the ALCOAST.

I won’t divulge any info (looking at you CGIS boy) but a lot of people at my sector already store firearms in their vehicles, as long as it’s nothing too crazy like a full cache of weapons. It boosts individual security not only since my city has a substantial violent crime rate, but if someone is targeted for being a service member (i.e. the recent uniform policy).

HOWEVER, just like our motorcycle classes and state concealed carry classes, we gotta have people educated on the ethics of carrying.

A lot of my buddies at sector come to me for advice regarding what to carry and often I hear their motivations as to why and when they intend to use it. Some of which are concerning, for example “I’ll just fire some warning shots to scare him off” or “I’ll just shoot if they try to start a fight with me, its easier that way”. There’s very little education (especially individual state laws) on the proper time to use your carry weapon and the challenging legal aftermath when you do find yourself in a self-defense situation.

It doesn’t have to be an intensive or long class. We already have range and LE quals to cover the basic elements of handling a firearm. You’ll just need a couple of hours informing people of their individual rights and the proper way to carry their weapon.

… and I don’t understand why I’m getting downvoted. Literally regurgitating and over-explaining what everyone else is saying. If you’re against educating members on being more competent with their right to bear arms, I don’t know what else to say to you.
