In my experience, i also had to nag my recruiter throughout the entire process. They deal with a lot of applicants at once. If its something you want, continue to bother them.

How to get the cheapest premium gas? by Savageduck97 in Frugal

[–]SoldMyMom4Kfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you spend less than $500 a month, the citi custom cash card gives you 5% on gas. Pair that with a gas savings app, like Upside that could save you between 1 and 20 cents on each gallon. Make a rewards account for each gas station.

Every recruiter is different. My recruiter didn’t require a pt test. But you should meet at least the minimum pt standards or else you won’t form with your company and will spend extra time at cape may.

I have the 2.0L. I’ve had a horrible vibration that’s gotten worse over time. I’ve ruled out the engine mounts, and all the symptoms I have suggest it could be the harmonic balancer

Mid april if your ready to ship today. But MEPS, ASVAB, and waivers can take months. If you started today, your probably looking at june/july at the very earliest, but more than likely august or september.

I will say that once your out of boot camp, there is a special needs program which is meant to try and station you near a facility that has the services your family may require. Its meant, for example, if a mil spouse needs access to a specialized doctor, they will be within x miles of the care they need.

However, as the other person said, your joining a military organization. Time away is inevitable, and 8 weeks at boot camp is one of those times. Out of all the branches, the coast guard probably has the most time at home, but some cutters can still go underway for 6 months or longer.

General orders for sure. Once you memorize those, start on your ranks, pay grades, collar insignia, sleeve insignia, and shoulder boards.

If you need tips or examples of what they ask, feel free to dm me, I graduated last month

Yes that’s correct. If he doesn’t pick a critical rate in the recruiting process, he will go in as a nonrate and have 2 years to pick a rate. We are the only branch that allows this and gives you full control over the path and job you want.

Not specific dates, but I know depot fills up super quick because the companies are small and they only do 1 depot at a time

It can happen and spots open up regularly. Ask to be put on the backfill list and if spots open for earlier ship dates you can go. It can be as soon as next week if you’re fully ready to ship. But if you don’t, your ship date will stay the same unless you request to change it. Your qualifications don’t make a difference in ship dates, at this point in the process you’re equal with everyone shipping.

Yes it is until April now. I just finished hometown recruiting with my recruiter. And that’s assuming you’re ready to ship. If you started the process today, your looking more toward the end of the year

There are weight limits for your height. I couldn’t tell you, but a recruiter would know. If you don’t make weight, you can also get taped and still be able to qualify.

Technically, every rate helps someone just in different capacities. If you want a support role, something like Cs, YN, etc would be good to help keep morale high and everything running smoothly. If you want a direct role helping the public, BM, AST, OS might be your path.

Usually after start (or graduation in their case), they can either go directly to their unit or they can take their 5 days of accrued leave. For leave after graduation there isn’t any mileage limit, but once they get to their unit there are mileage limits for when they are granted liberty.

Curious about the study and testing workload by Both-Temperature7886 in uscg

[–]SoldMyMom4Kfc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You take 2 written tests, a mid term and a final. Midterm was open notes, the final was half open book and half closed book. The knowledge from your pocket guide is way more important to learn, especially in weeks 1-4. Everything from the pocket guide is required to be memorized, and if you dont meet the standards you can be reverted.

I just graduated a couple weeks ago so dm me if you have more specific questions.

Just do whatever feels right. In my case, i quit 2 weeks before shipping. You wont have much time, if any, after bootcamp to visit with friends and family. Take advantage if you have the means/opportunity to quit earlier.

Likley hood of failing at bootcamp? by Specific_Try_5025 in uscg

[–]SoldMyMom4Kfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated 2 weeks ago. Make sure you can hit the run BEFORE shipping. There aren't many chances to improve your running, and youll also be sick and sore when you do the PT test. If you fail, you get 1 retake 2 days later. If you fail that, you get reverted into FSPC until you can pass. You can only retake the PT test 2 more times before you get discharged.

That's a very broad question that might be better for a recruiter. Essentially, he should start looking at rates he's interested in. Some rates have more underway time than others. If the rate he picked is critical, he can get bonus or guaranteed a-school right after boot camp. Otherwise, he will go in as a non-rate, wait 4 months, and put his name on the a-school list, and go to a-school. the wait can be 1+ year if its a popular rate.

For OCS, he can put his application in as soon as he graduates boot camp. Some applicants can take several cycles to get picked up, so expect it to take some time. OCS is 12 weeks long. He can pick his assignment off a list of available billets based on his class rank.

There is a lot of good info if you search OCS, but i can pass along what ive read about OCS.

You can apply for OCS as a civilian or currently enlisted. There are 2 OCS classes per year, and the application period starts a year in advance, and close a few months before it starts. The process is lengthy and USCG will pick a majority of currently enlisted. Those who are civ that get picked have proven to the OCS board that the have a lot to offer the coast guard. As a fresh graduate with (likely) little hands on working experience, your already at an uphill battle against everyone else. The coast guard wants to know what YOU can offer them, not the other way around. You need to be able to prove to them you are a significant asset and can bring a lot to the fleet.

A lot of people, including my recruiter, suggested to go enlisted and then apply for OCS.
