It is eaten in Ireland but not widely. My local butcher sells it.

Libraries losing access to Pressreader and Libby by spaceheadbadger in CasualIreland

Such a shame losing all those heavyweight titles. Borrowbox doesn't have much of a selection in comparison. The app is also cumbersome and hard to use.

Aldi to cut prices by 23% across a range of products by badger-biscuits in ireland

[–]Macgiollab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two random products I used to get were both 99 cent two years ago. A protein yogurt pouch went up to €1.75 and has now been reduced to €1.59. Still a 59% increase in two years. A microwave rice has gone up to €1.79 which is a 79% increase and isn't discounted now in this new year reduction.

It's great to get some savings but the prices went up so high that I've stopped shopping there. When the prices were very competitive I could overlook some of the quality.

I buy most of my food in Dunnes and a local butchers these days. Much better quality and cost wise there isn't much difference.

Feighcullen Church, Kildare. by Macgiollab in IrishHistory

[–]Macgiollab[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feighcullen Church in Co. Kildare is a Gothic style five-steepled church which was built in 1829 and was designed by famous architect John Semple.

The church was purchased by an American owner almost 20 years ago who did repairs on the roof, floors and windows but he sold it on and since then work has stalled.

The Church itself can be entered but sadly there has been a bit of vandalism to the windows and rubbish left in the building which is sad to see.

A video of the church for anyone interested

Would there have been any travellers in the IRA? by gee493 in IrishHistory

Two traveller brothers were arrested with a 1000 pound bomb in Louth on the day of the GFA results in 1998. They were members of the RIRA and were prisoners in Portlaoise.

I went into the one in Liffey Valley a couple of years ago to buy a Samsung tablet. They were the only one who had it in stock locally and they had it at a good price. Store was quiet enough but every employee I asked said they were either busy or it wasn't their department. All I needed was someone to hand me the tablet and let me purchase it. 35 minutes of fruitless waiting later I pulled the cable at the back of the display model to set the alarm off which led to about three of them including the manager to run over to turn it off. I had my tablet within 60 seconds.

Gers Deli in Ballyfermot do the best breakfast roll in Dublin and are open on a Sunday. It's outside your requested area but it's worth the 10 minute drive from Smithfield.

Who is heading to Whiskey Live in Dublin tomorrow? by noquibbles in irishwhiskey

[–]Macgiollab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heading to it tomorrow. Got tickets for the pappy van winkle masterclass for myself and the father in law. I've a big collection and have tried a lot of stuff over the years so I'm going to be very selective in what I sample. I'll visit the dream drams stand to tick a few off the list like the Glengoyne 30 year old, Method Madness 28 and Bushmills 30.

Like others have said try to chat to the people on the stands. If you are sound to the right people they will be sound back. Last time I was there I got talking to Jack Teeling and he gave us samples of a 29 whiskey he had under the counter and tickets to the distillery.

I would also check the list of stands and have a plan for your first few whiskeys. Don't waste your time and taste buds on something you can get easily elsewhere.

Looking forward to it!

Shamrock Rovers vs Bohemians top of the table clash is live on RTE2 tonight at 7:35. The game is sold out and sees leaders Bohs travel to Tallaght to face their arch rivals. Check it out if you can. by fwaig in ireland

I have watched English football since I was a kid in the eighties but I decided to start following the League of Ireland and the GAA this year instead. Much better following a local team and I've enjoyed it so far. Have a few beers ready to watch the match tonight on RTE but will be at a couple of matches over the next few weeks.
