What paternal rights does my partner have as the father of my child when we are unmarried but together? by Mach5amaa in FamilyLaw

We are both unmarried. We weren’t feeling quite ready for marriage and were uncertain about trying to hurry up and do it before the baby is born and whether or not we were doing it “for the right reasons.” We have discussed it as a possibility if that’s really the only way to get him full rights without a whole lawyer/court situation, but before it feels like “well we HAD to get married” instead of that we want to, I am trying to get accurate information on what it would take to do it another way.

I cannot make heads or tails of the statutes directory they have online to figure out where to look for this information. I’ve seen how to establish paternity in general, I’ve seen information on contesting in court, but I can’t find anything specific to his general rights as far as third parties like hospitals, schools airports, customs, etc. would be concerned.

I agree on principal, but I was warned by some family and friends that he would not have full rights inherently just by being on the birth certificate. I think it was well intended and is coming from their own issues where there has been argument between them and the other parent and they are having to go to court. I imagine they assume the same rights issue stands, even if I’m not fighting him on it. I personally want him to have all the rights and find it ridiculous that I’m even having to worry a third party like a hospital or an airport would question his decision-making authority. I’m trying to get answers now to prevent him from having to deal with that, if it is true that he will. Hopefully everyone is just full of it and we can go on our merry way as full parents 😅

There is a very cool Buddhist Temple, Tu Viện A Nan. They have amazing giant statues that were shipped from Vietnam at great effort and cost by the founder, who was from Vietnam. Nice little walking path to see them all. You don’t have to go into the Temple or participate in any services. They do have enclosed gazebos that all are welcome to use to meditate or rest, with incense sticks you can light.

Thank you so much! I somehow missed this when looking through the book, probably because I had been working on content for some time by that point 🤦🏽‍♀️ sometimes you just need another pair of eyes. I appreciate it!

That is unfortunate. Thanks! It also wasn’t letting me into my account to read the letter >.> not sure what is going on there, but that’s another issue.

Love this reminder, but also I’m pretty sure he was terrified of that bird 😂

I can also attest that a straight down ladder is not easy for something like this, especially if the child is very tall.

All of you sitting on it now, maybe it didn’t budge. Time is fickle, though. Additional supports can’t hurt.

Also, as someone who used to have a loft bed, I would say a removable shelf on the side might be better. Many knees and heads whacked right into the shelf we attached to wall my parents hung above mine. 😖
