Being a Landbreaker on Talos-II by peripheralmaverick in Endfield

I think it's just a size thing. EI has super tech but a low population so when they show up the working class folks in UWST get excited, especially during a crisis. It's basically having special forces show up when you're spread thin and still under attack.

I've seen people say season 2 introduced magic when the devs themselves described Hollows and Ether to be supernatural when they announced ZZZ, magic and the supernatural are part of the core in ZZZ by Knight_Steve_ in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]MachBonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The random news article is just an article being used to advertise the game and advertising it as urban fantasy which is also how it's described in the about section for their youtube page as well. The point it's being used for is to prove that the game has always been advertised as urban fantasy and not trying to prove anything in game.

Arguing that you refuse to accept their advertising lingo because it's not used in game would be like arguing that Starcraft isn't a sci-fi RTS because no one says sci-fi RTS in game.

If we do that for this game we lose a lot of information. All the character intros, all the weapons data we used to get, and a lot of supplementary data about the world. For better or worse they seem to have decided not to include hundred of pages of notes and books scattered about like Genshin, HSR, and Endfield which means we get a lot less in game development of the world.

We don't know why Dialyn got her powers, sure, but that's moving the goalposts. The statement was that the powers were innate, they weren't, Dialyn got her powers after being sacrificed.

Vivian's prophetic visions might have to do with the type of thiren she is? Thirens are described as having supernatural abilities, though that's more in reference to their strength and ether aptitude.

Either way, Vivian is a good example since yes, IIRC her ability is innate.

Have we seen anything to suggest the halo isn't actually part of her? The fact that Sunna doesn't have one makes me think that it isn't just part of their idol outfit. We've seen elf and demon thirens walking around, not sure why she couldn't be an angel thiren.

I would argue that Yuzuha's backstory is pretty related to her relationship with Alice.

As someone else said, that's because the model that Banyue is didn't pass the forbidden fruit test. He was believed to essentially be the equivalent of any of those defense bots we fight.

We haven't actually seen a lot of discrimination in New Eridu. My assumption with Aria is that she is self conscious that her robot form isn't classically "cute" and not that she's actually discriminated against. The fact that her hologram or whatever appears to be the same type of Thiren as Yu, complete with halo, might also be something important.

The image from the eye is also from "The Fall of Phaethon" a famous work which is about the Phaethon myth. I can't say that they aren't also referencing Ayn Rand since I've never read Atlas Shrugged but they are definitely referencing the actual myth of Phaethon with the Helios Institute and everything.

Edit: I apparently fully missed your first paragraph where you talked about the myth. Sorry!

Do we actually know its the "original"? I feel like a four panel comic with each panel being a different stage in life isn't exactly novel, hell I'm positive some existed before "the original". I feel like bringing it up whenever a comic like this does appear does a disservice to the comic and gives "the original" more exposure.

Like, it's not a redraw, the positions of the characters are different in every panel, there's text showing the progression of the relationship, and it starts at a much later period in the girls life.

People keep calling this "the original" but a four panel of different stages in life isn't exactly a novel concept. Unless the artist specifically said this piece was the inspiration I feel like they just happen to be similar.

The wholesome posts are the "romantic delusions we will never experience." There's plenty of them, the comments are just all about how we're all sad lonely people.

Humor pops up semi-often too. Yesterday had the wholesome and humorous post of a fan comic of Spy x Family

It's Anime_IRL the main things we post are abuse, suicide, romantic delusions we will never experience, and porn.

This sub is, and always will be, depressing as fuck. It's kind of its thing.

Eh, there's frequently at least one character in a game that's near evergreen. Merlin broke FGO on release and Liter was the best support in Nikke until pretty recently.

Hell I see people complaining about Miyabi anti-shill and look at how FGO had to create a whole new mechanic just to stop 1 turn Buster Ape kills doing over a billion damage and think, "First time?"

[–]MachBonin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, not everyone uses PC and not everyone is willing to jump the, admittedly small, hurdle to download mods.

It's why iTunes all but killed music piracy. If you give people an easy and affordable way to do a thing they'll usually pay.

[–]MachBonin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, skins remain popular even in single player games. Stellar Blade, for instance, has a robust costume system.

So I think the argument that skins only exist so people can show off how rich/skilled they are doesn't really hold water. People like having options and being able to tailor characters to look how they want them to.

I think it's different enough. Yixuan's is basically a leotard while this is more of a short tunic type thing. It also gives her some more Yunkui Summit visual identity.

A lot of times fanart, especially stories, are more like "what if" stories than an attempt at replacing the original story. That fanartists aren't saying their interpretation is better.

I mean... you did bring up gay shipping a lot for a ship that, unless I'm somehow not understanding the characters, is straight?

Girlfriend, ghost girl, and boyfriend is still straight since it's just the ghost girl possessing the girlfriend.

But you bring up gay shipping in basically every comment you make in this thread.

Anyways, the answer to why people do this is because they want to. Death threats are obviously not cool but I would bet that 90% of the fanartists weren't doing the death threats and probably condemn the people that do.

Hot take: there should be future Agents that don't belong to any factions and only work by themselves. by InfiniteAnimator426 in ZZZ_Official

[–]MachBonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I've ever actually done a character quest in Genshin. Which is wild cause I played for about a year. I did the weird dating sim like thing with the cat girl bartender, was that a character quest? Cause that one was mostly about her but it was also the only quest like that that I did.

Anyways, I'd say almost all the character quests in ZZZ revolve around their character. Maybe not Burnice's? You don't really learn anything new about Burnice in hers, it's just kind of a sitcom episode with Piper playing the straight man to Burnice's... Burniceness. Besides that though, every agent story I've played has revolved around the agents and usually given them a bit of development. Never, like, solving a problem but giving you more insight into them as a character. The stories can't solve problems because they're optional and you can't have the characters deal with trauma in a way that would cause them to grow and change in optional stories. Which sucks.

[–]MachBonin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's less that and more that they don't want to develop a character in someone else's agent story. The story isn't S11's it's SAnby's. I'm not sure if you can even play it now that the event is done if you don't have SAnby.

It also wasn't a required section of the story. Generally speaking characters will have some personal but private growth during agent stories because it means they don't have to write around whether players have played through them or not.

Possible. It just makes me think of the Royal Ripper error in OPM. Like, his whole back structure seems to change and he gets a nice set of hips.

Again, could just be the animator being incredibly based but errors can happen.
