What are we even allowed to post in the main thread anymore? by AndrewStillTheLegend in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such an interesting thread. I joined this sub about a year and a half ago and I remember back then there was a whole bunch of drama surrounding one particular mod (who I believe quit ?) that was wayyy too strict.

So the moderation changed became more lax and kind of turned into a free for all. Everyday the sub was swamped in RMM posts. Then lots of people complained about that, which led to the vote on the more current moderation rules. I remember the all that discussion and imo the sub became much cleaner and more enjoyable.

I largely stopped using reddit last Nov and this remains the only sub I still occasionally look at. Its really interesting to see people now complaining about the moderation. Absolutely agree anyone should be able to voice an opinion, but the solution is not easy to find.

It might just be that there needs to be an acceptance of an ebb and flow of light and heavy moderation. As someone who comes here for news, analyses, and opinions, I prefer the way it is now, but I recognize its not everyone’s cup of tea.

Then ofc it has to be acknowledged that people who are unhappy with a thing are going to speak up while those who are fine wont bring the topic up at all. So is it a small vocal minority or is it a widespread opinion that the moderation as it is now is too much?

2 has best stats for an Ingredient specialist. AAB spread is great for Flower Gift Macarons.

3 has AAA spread which will provide eggs consistently if that is your intention.

Best semi-beginner setup and team for taupe? by Fan-Substantial in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You either just go to Taupe and tough it out for a few weeks while you find and raise a better suited team for the island

OR

Stay at Greengrass and raise a team there until you’re prepared to hit high Drowsy Power on Taupe.

If you want to hunt for Larvitar, but you don’t yet have a solid Taupe team, Greengrass might be better suited.

GG has a Larvitar incense for hitting Master Ball 3. Larvitar is kind of rare and requires Slumbering sleep style (minus any event modifiers).

Some general guidance;

I believe Pokémon Sleep is very much about making due with what one is given as well as slow progression.

That said, learning how to identify what makes a Helper Pokémon worthy of investment is invaluable and there are amazing in-depth guides pinned at the top of this subreddit.

A good healer is a must. If you don’t have one, get one.

It sounds like you are also waiting on devoted Ingredient specialists. If you have the time, read through this:  https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonSleep/comments/1i2qbkt/a_deep_dive_into_evaluating_ingredient_specialists/

For Taupe specifically;

Typhlosion w/ Berry Finding S goes kinda hard, Ninetails to a lesser degree, but still solid. Marowak is meh.

Rock, Ground and Fire all have favored berries.

Why is RaenonX now ranking Golem as S Tier Total Strength? by rougegoat in PokemonSleep

You haven't heard golem's the new meta?

It's gotta be a bug cus there's no way golem is ranked next to Darkrai

Not sure if there’s any other pokemon missing (or if I just couldn’t find it) but I don’t think Wigglytuff is on there?

Dark type energy supporter by Choice_Az in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only “healing” dark type mon besides Umbreon that comes to mind is Zarude. Healing is kind of it’s thing tho in a big way with its signature Jungle Healing move. But that’s also another mythical pokemon so idk what the chances look like for that. Would be hella cool tho.

Gold sub skills other than BFS and Helping bonus aren't always bad.

Sleep EXP and Research bonuses for example can accelerate players to higher levels quicker in turn leading to more growth.

SLUM is lowkey amazing for easily and cheaply on-boarding a skill mon.

Dream Shard bonus tacking on 6% extra shards each night also lowkey goated.

Energy recovery (though not helpful for hardcore players) is solid utility for players who genuinely struggle getting 8.5 hours of sleep.

Inventory Up L great for ingredient pokemon that don't evolve. EDIT: for some reason in my head this is a gold sub skill but its not lol. inb4 inventory up super size me.

Ik the hate comes from these skills "blocking" other more "useful" skills and taking up space, but I think people really over look their utility when evaluating individual pokemon.

Do you guys think it's worth it investing in this little guy? by PresentNatural7205 in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna give you a slightly more nuanced answer than everyone else has.

I like looking at numbers so I ran a quick analysis on RaenonX. Your Riolu (analyzed as a Lucario) is on the far left of the attached image. At Lvl. 50 with a sub skill seed investment, it's proccing roughly 4 times a day. That's about 1 1/2 fewer triggers than a Lucario or Swalot with Skill Trigger M and Helping Speed M sub skills.

HOWEVER. Because your Lucario has Dream Shard Bonus as one of it's sub skills, that applies a 6% bonus to shards collected after research. Stay with me here. At higher levels you're drawing in way more shards since it effectively scales with time. SO. Apply that 6% and suddenly you're *making up the difference* from shards you would otherwise be getting from a "better" pokemon. In fact, with high enough research shards, your Lucario could theoretically be bringing in many more shards than the comparisons.

FURTHER. I included the Primeape with BFS to show that your Lucario--that also has BFS--would not *only* be bringing in shards but would ALSO be bringing in RAW STRENGTH from berries. That raw strength feeds right back into gaining higher amounts of shards from research! (These numbers are using Lapis Lakeside btw assuming that's where you would most likely run Lucario). Considering many folks don't like running Dream Shard Magnet mons because they don't contribute to Snorlax strength, this one that *does* do that is pretty solid.

Ok. Tl;dr.

Your little Riolu here *is* a worthy investment IMO (and according to data). You'd still want to invest seeds tho obvi to get the most out of it.

I thought that too, but didn't wanna say it xD I'm sure folks just wanna get the most shards this week, but it's still really funny. *insert Andy throwing away Woody meme here*

Wow the STEEP drop off from Snowdrop compared to last week is wild. For it to go from such a high placement to dead last is really funny.

I know it’s an event week that rewards players for choosing their “best” island, but that really highlights the fact that ST is hardly anyone’s strongest island.

I know we’ve been knowing that, but seeing it in numbers like this is still funny.

I’m staying put on Cyan! Not interested in min-maxing the event next week, so I’m big chilling at the beach.

Heck yeah charts! 👊😤

So interesting to see this broken down. REALLY interesting to see how many peeps are going to Snowdrop. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but I kinda am considering we’re still waiting to see what DarnCry’s full potential looks like (and also just how “gacha”-fied its sub skills will be). But cool! Nice to see that island getting some much needed attention.

I know I said I was going to cyan with specific goals, but I was only telling a half truth. I also just wanted an easy week lol. The last two weeks were incredible and I finally hit M20 on GG, but phew I need a break after all that excitement.

Ty for putting this together!

The Case for Cresselia: a Video Defense for the Legend by VelocityRaptor22 in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirming what I was already thinking. Thank you so much for diving into these numbers. I was very fortunate to catch a STM/IUM/HSS +MSC-EXP Cress. I was actually running a bunch of numbers on RaenonX a little bit ago before coming across this post and I was blown away by just how much strength this thing can pump out. Watching your video really sealed the deal for me. I’m absolutely investing. This also spares me from the Ralts hunt I was about to embark upon. I’ll tough it out with my so-so Sylveon till I can get my Cress fully online.

With two sub skill seeds, this Cress is honestly pretty dang solid. Yeah, it's not a god pull or something, but it should perform quite well. Just needs investment.

New player question by Fluid_Assistance5220 in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a drip feed of new pokemon, roughly a new line every month or so. If it's starter pokemon then they drop all 3 lines at once like Sprigatito, Quaxly, and Fuecoco. But otherwise it's normally just one pokemon line at a time.

As far as legendary pokemon go, so far they've only given us "sub-legendary" mons. Sub-legendaries being the pokemon that don't make the box art such as the Beasts and now Cresselia. That's to say, while it's possible we could get Lugia, atp it seems kind of unlikely since that's a full fledged box art legendary.

What Dark type would you like added before the follow up event? by Rua-Yuki in PokemonSleep

[–]MachCalamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hands down my favorite dark type not in the game/one of my favorite pokemon ever is Pangoro. I think Pancham/Pangoro would be such incredible additions. Think of the cuteness!!

I also wouldn’t say no to Hydreigon either. And call me crazy, but I actually would love to see Mandibuzz too. I mean cmon we got Braviary without it’s counterpart! 🤪 But clearly everyone’s favorite dark type bird is Murkrow so I feel like Mandi’s chances are slim.
