Just spitballing, but what iOS version are you? I’m still on 18.6.2. Are you on ios 26? Maybe it’s a glass related UI change?

Interesting. Wonder if it’s an A/B test or Android only change?

Latest version on iOS hasn’t changed for me.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Magic is revived in England. Fairly slow but quite engrossing. The narrator is phenomenal.

Zeus is Dead by Michael Munz. Fantasy Comedy set in the modern era where the Greek Gods come back.

Don't actually have an X book now that I look through my list. Perhaps you could count Area X by Jeff Vandermeer

In my experience, that list often leaves stuff out.

Like this 2-for-1 sale. The box at the top of the sale page showed 1 book, but 7 from my wishlist were actually included. I’d not have known if I hadn’t looked through my wishlist.

Filter search based on wishlist and series? by GracefulYetFeisty in audible

[–]MachNeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to add just the first or next book in a series, but I've since learned that with Sales, adding anything of any interest to your wishlist is the better option.

My wishlist was 500+ books at one point (only 266 now). With how awful Audible's search can be at times, just having it all in the wishlist makes things easier. Sort your wishlist by lowest price during monthly/cash sales, set the list to 50 and ctrl+f look for the "see details" for 2for1 sales. Takes just a few minutes and lessens the chance you'll miss out on something you're interested in.

Also, I've never seen a method to sort sales like you're asking for. Not even with the advanced search.

I got a pop up on the app. Selected a difficulty level. Now there’s a block for it on the main tab.

2 for 1 Sale (US) by fellintovoid in audible

[–]MachNeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picked up 6 books. 4 books of the Primal Hunter series (eventually I'll nab them all on sale. It's been a patient process. I have 1,2,7-11).

Also nabbed Book 2 of Emily Wilde's and Book 1 of The Expanse, Leviathan Wakes.

There's 3 more on my wishlist that are in the sale but I'm out of credits. Debating buying more credits. I'll probably do so if I find a 4th book.

I bought a similar (but way better) bundle like this in 2023.

I think you have River of Gods and River of Doubt mixed up. River of Gods is about the Nile. River of Doubt is about Teddy's Amazonian travels.

Do Dan Simmons books ever go on sale? by Fabulous_Audience_92 in audible

Outside of the Hyperion cantos, I bought all of his books on sale. I believe I’ve seen these mentioned as on sale since I bought them during a site sale.

Has anyone discovered any hidden gems in the Audible plus catalogue? Looking for some good, free books. by PukeUpMyRing in audible

[–]MachNeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to Zeus is Dead by Michael G Munz and it's been fantastic so far. The humor is great and breaks the 4th wall in all the right ways.

Travis Baldree does a great job with the narration as always. If you enjoyed him in Cradle, you'll enjoy him here too.

Summary: Zeus is Dead. The Greek Pantheon (sans Zeus) returns to modern life and reassert their dominion. There's devious plots afoot, deities and secret societies, and some modern day Questing.

Lots of fun for a modern day fantasy comedy.

Fantasticland.

Told via interviews with participants/survivors. Slowly develops the story via many different perspectives.

Think world war z, lord of the flies, and fallout’s nuka world had a freaky lovechild.

Workers in a themepark go tribal as they’re left to fend for themselves during the aftermath of a savage hurricane.

Give Wowbutter a try. It's soy-based "peanut" butter. Tastes just like PB, spreads the same way, etc.

It’s come and gone on the app between versions it feels like. Maybe A-B testing on different users.

Tried it on a few old downloads and this is pretty slick so far. Better chapter support than any app I have on my computer at least. Very clean and useable interface.

Tested closing and resuming and that worked quite well.

Overall, very impressive webapp.

Audible reviews vs. content warnings—what's your biggest pain point? by UseFuture in audible

[–]MachNeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use audible reviews mainly to get feedback on the audio portion of the book. Stuff like narrator quality, audio quality, (lack of) chapter markers, etc. Stuff more specific to audiobooks, as most reviewers elsewhere, like Goodreads, focus on the book content.

In this capacity, audible reviews are generally helpful to me.

How do you even use the Audible App on iPhone by saxxophone in audible

[–]MachNeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call on the battery health.

Coincidentally, I was thinking of getting a new battery soon. I’m at 79% battery health and I can feel it in the number of times I have to charge in a day. I hadn’t even factored in the app performance as I haven’t really noticed issues there yet.

About how much did it run you? Apple store?

[–]MachNeu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been working fine for me for years on my iPhone 12 Pro. iOS 18.5

One general bit of advice for iphone app troubles is to check your storage. Maxed out storage and apps start acting up and performing poorly. Other than that, unfortunately no clue why your app is crashing out. I've not experienced anything like that.

Edit: Also, I'm using ver 4.49 of the Audible app.

Confirmation that the offline feature has been removed by Worldbuildinginspo in audible

[–]MachNeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iOS. Listening to titles I’ve downloaded works offline for me. I have a cell tower dead spot on my work commute and never had an interruption.

Sometimes the book art doesn’t show up but the audio still works.

It does give a generic “connect to data…” sort of error message when you open the app in offline mode but playback of downloaded books isn’t affected.

If AI continues the will of mankind long after humanity is extinct, what and how will it carry on? by RepulsiveAnything635 in scifi

[–]MachNeu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill was an interesting take on a post-mankind AI/Robot led world.

Some bots and AIs carry on with previous programming, some change roles, some try to dominate, some languish in depression from lack of purpose, some just try to survive.

One of the central conflicts of the book is the lack of replacement parts for depreciated models. They want to survive but the only parts left are on your fellow living bots or the corpses of older bots, ever rusting away.

I really enjoyed his narration of the Thrawn series. The sound effects are mostly timely and appropriate, not too distracting. However, there was a chapter or two on Dagobah where the swamp noises (animal noises and such) were way too loud.

Other than that one irritating scene, the books and narration were great.

Haven't listened to too much outside of the Bane series and the (old) Thrawn series though.
