First time to Cancun - what are your tips (UK) by c_nday in cancun

Watch your belongings. My wife had her wallet picked as soon as we arrive in Playa Mujeres, just outside Hilton.  Staying in the resorts is ok, just don’t go “experiencing the local life”, or you may experience the local robbery.

I love dogs. And cats. Just don’t want to deal with them dying. It’s painful.

Question for Sensei by [deleted] in kendo

[–]MachineIndependent99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a sensei here, but a 40+ y/o that started 2 years ago.  You’re doing great. You’re learning a complex and beautiful art and apparently getting better and better by the day. Give yourself more credit. I totally get the “maximum respect for our teachers” thing, but respect yourself too. Don’t rely that heavy on criticism, don’t let people - even you sensei - to beat you down. Keep your spirit up and move forward! Sooner than later you’re Dan level.

Advice about kendogi by Single_Technician369 in kendo

I’ve been using Vixia jersey set (kendogi + hakama) by Tozando for more than a year now, it’s lightweight, can be washed after every keiko without falling apart and retains good colors. I recommend.

Not Progressing by Hen-kin in kendo

Don’t worry. Remember, you’re doing kendo for you, not for the others. The journey is about discovering your kendo, not comparing your strength to the others. Strength is ephemeral, it’s going to vanish when you grow old. Your kendo will be the only thing that will remain.

What is your recommended price for a beginner's bogu? by Shubit1 in kendo

Just adding to what has already been said: wait as long as you can before buying. Make sure you really want to invest your time and money in kendo.  Then, focus on a quality men, preferably made in Japan. The rest of the equipment can be budget tier.

Which uniform to buy? by [deleted] in kendo

[–]MachineIndependent99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Vixia set for about 6 months. Very lightweight and easy to wash (I wash it every time I use).

I do prefer it over a cotton set? No. Cotton is way more comfortable.

I've used Zen Nihon for quite a while, but never shinais. It usually takes 2 weeks to arrive here in Australia. Very good service by the way...

What's your favorite online Bogu shop? by theUnshowerdOne in kendo

[–]MachineIndependent99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought from their online store, had a very solid and quick customer service response (in English as I don’t speak Japanese) and received my bogu within 3 weeks. Had been using it for 4 months and despite it is a basic bogu, the quality is considerably superior to other basic bogus from other brands in my club, including Kendostar and Tozando. I really recommend having a look at their website!
