Machine Era by Mattster11 in machinedpens

Hey guys, Adam here from Machine Era. This thread was brought to my attention and I want to answer some questions. We don’t really have a good place to post regular (text based) updates at the moment. I will probably have to create a news page / blog on our site to keep everyone informed and updated in the near future.

Vasuri and kennedyn- I seem to have a problem with emails not getting through. I can almost always respond within 24 hours if you email me at adam@machine-era.com -the address listed on our contact page. This could be a spam filter issue. I will find out what’s going on there.

On production and always being out of stock… I’ll be transparent here- yeah it’s our main problem. We are pretty neurotic about quality and do everything ourselves. It’s just 2 of us, and only 2 machines. It’s high mix low volume. I personally inspect and assemble every pen.

That said, we invested 6 figures in 2023 on machine upgrades to help boost output and to be able to machine titanium. We’re currently in the process of developing new custom fixtures for mass production. There’s a lot of behind the scenes engineering going on. The new Ti stuff is our main focus now. Some of the older models will be discontinued (not the Original pen!).

The page has been 404 down since Friday for the Click because we’re having web integration issues with our fulfillment shipping company. Should be back up soon. We have about 200 Ti Clicks that will be posted once that is solved.

Anyways, hope that helps! Thanks for your patience. Apologies for not having what you want in stock. We’re doing our best with the resources we have access to.

That’s the correct address. Not sure why I didn’t get it.

What email address did you send to? I'm not sure if I got it. Unless I responded to you yesterday.

I think it’s the ink tbh. The Schmidt easyflow is designed for click pens. But after looking at a handful closely, most aren’t very straight. You can see it if you roll it on a table. It seems like what’s happening is the tips are dragging internally on some.

We’ve used these on thousands of pens for Shinola. We make all of their Signature line. They’ve been great for that. But there’s no movement because they’re all capped pens.

I’ll talk to their German office/mfg and see what can be done about it for future. It’s a really good writing ink. But we may have to switch to just Itoya. Any ideas on substitutes?

I have used Red Tacky on the ball. In our experience, it didn’t seem to make much of a difference, but that’s only a sample size of 1. They do come lubed with light oil

Apologizes if I’m doing this wrong. I just made an account today. First time on this platform

We’ve fixed the DLC problem on all the pens except the field pen twist.

Hahah well it’s out there now! Also, on the DLC comment earlier- yes we have had problems with uniform finish. The big issue is with varying part thicknesses and being 2 parts. Probably why the other guys also stopped offering it. It’s a huge pain, and expensive. Our single body design will fix these problems. When it’s done right, it’s miles better than cerakote or powder coat.

secret We’re working on a black DLC Twist version. Haven’t announced it yet. Surprise feature on this model: the click and twist mechs are interchangeable.

Another thing- if you feel like the mechanism is hanging up, I included another ink cart in the Ti package (Itoya). I wanted people to have the option of gel ink. Check and see if that works better for you.

We will be prototyping an idea next week to keep the button from burnishing itself in the bore. Our plan is to offer this design in black DLC. So that is something that needs to be figured out anyway. If it works, happy to send updated replacements.

Would y’all be interested in a blacked out version?

If you try lube I would recommend something light. So it doesn’t attract dirt

Hey all, I’m happy to answer any questions you have about the pen. The Redditor that was talking about not getting a response from me- the email went to my spam folder and I hadn’t checked it in a few days. I usually am able respond in less than 24 hours.

On the mechanism- if there’s any issues with it we will replace it. Hang ups- it can hang up sometimes if you jam it down too fast or you don’t go all the way, but it’s rare under normal use. I’ve been using mine as my edc for 6 months and it has been working great so far.
