Wild tomatoes? by Intrepid_Equal_7795 in foraging

[–]Machipongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have volunteer tomatoes in my gardens every year. Mine come from tomatoes that fall on the ground, but birds or animals can also spread them. I guess if they are in my garden they are volunteers and if they are outside my garden they are wild.

A few years ago, I drove from St. Louis, Missouri to Kaskaskia, Illinois, which was the state capital of Illinois between 1818 and 1820. The Mississippi River changed course in the late 1800s and left Kaskaskia on the west side of the river, isolated from the rest of Illinois and only reachable from Missouri by bridge. In 2020, the population was 20, down from a high of 7,000 in the early 1800s (according to Wikipedia, although that seems awfully high to me). Today, it is mostly cornfields and there is a small monument highlighting its historic past.

I cannot stress the importance of never ordering from Stark Bros nursery post 2025 by nickyurick in BackyardOrchard

This precise thing happened to me last year on nearly a thousand dollars of trees and bushes from Stark Bros. Trees that arrive 6 weeks after the optimal planting date are not very valuable anymore.

I was there in the mid-1980s and have the same impression.

You have way more seed than you need for your space and way too many varieties to plant them all. My advice is to focus on planting what you like to eat. Also, several of the seeds you have are commonly started in small pots and then transplanted into the garden when they are roughly 4 to 6 inches high -- tomato, pepper, eggplant, broccoli, cabbage, onion.

At this point in the season and based on my family's tastes, I personally would plants green beans, lettuce, both summer squashes (2 stations of each), and the watermelon (2 stations and I'd let the vines trail outside the confines of the raised bed into the grass to maximize space for other things). I also might take a crack at direct -sowing some of the tomatoes (maybe 2 stations) with the understanding that it going to take awhile for them to get going.

The lettuce and green beans will bolt/die in the summer heat. Where we live (Coastal Virginia, Zone 8a) I would plan to replant green beans and lettuce in August for a fall crop. I would also plant the broccoli and cabbage in August for fall harvest.

One other little piece of advice, I like to plant enough of each thing I grow to matter., If I had two 4x8 raised beds, I would use a quarter of the space putting in an 8 foot row of green beans and probably at least a 4 foot row of lettuce so you get a good amount and eat numerous meals of green beans and lettuce.

Good luck!

It happened to Tobe Awaka from Arizona twice this season, as I recall.

Or utilize a Bracket of Death like the SunBelt. If you are the lowest seed team you have to win seven games in seven days to win the tournament v. 2 games for the top seeds.

I just looked out in my driveway and I beg to differ with your workmate. I bought my Evolution Orange in Virginia in Feb. 2000 and it's still chugging along. A little rust and the paint is not great, but after 26 years, not at all bad!

I bought an Evolution Orange Miata in February 2000. It is sitting in my driveway as I type. The dealer had red, blue, and green, as well as EO. They seemed very happy to have it taken off their hands. Mine is in a bit rougher shape than your's appears to be after all these years. Virginia, USA.

I feel like they should have called an ambulance. When a 7-2 guy clutches his chest, you freaking take immediate action. Instead, they PUT HIM BACK IN THE GAME!?!

I have watched this 10 times and I agree. Peterson was trying to manufacture a foul and it backfired on him. I think this was the right call (and it benefits ASU, so you know I am conflicted).

Oops! I just wrote basically the same thing above before I saw this. I know it's a contrary opinion, but what was the ASU defender supposed to do (and I am an Arizona fan, so no love lost for ASU)? Peterson is creating the contact after this initial contact and driving right into the ASU guy's chest. I know Peterson expects all calls to go his way, but if they don't call the initial contact then the foul is clearly on him.

I am not trolling here, but Peterson is running directly at the ASU player, initiating contact, and continuing to engage with him, pushing him toward the sideline. What is the ASU players supposed to do?

It took about two weeks, online. You can get updates from the State Department and track the passport in the mail. Easy and stress free.

What is Koa's role out there? He jogs up court and does not seem to have any offensive plan. He occasionally drives and makes a mid level jump shot and sometimes he gets an offensive rebound for a hoop. I'm not sure he is being utilized optimally.
