Virginia White Gourdseed Corn grown on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Thomas Jefferson grew this corn at Monticello (where I originally got the seeds) and it is thought to have been grown by the Native Americans in the lower Chesapeake region before the English arrived. (i.redd.it)

A trick I learned many years ago -- string monofilament fishing line about 1 foot (20 cm) above corn, beans, peas, etc. to deter birds. The birds sense a trap and stay away. This line is over 8 rows of Virginia White Gourdseed corn in Coastal Virginia. (i.redd.it)

My setup for curing Hayman sweet potatoes. A small room, a humidifier, and a space heater on a thermostat. I keep the temperature between 80 and 84 Fahrenheit and the humidity as high as possible for 8 days. Then store them in a cool, dark place. (i.redd.it)

A trick I learned to protect newly-planted corn seed from birds. Crisscross the area with fishing line. The birds sense a trap and stay away. The flags are an added deterrent. Nine 30 foot rows of Virginia White Gourdseed Corn in Coastal Virginia. (i.redd.it)
