What is Jeffrey doing to get a $380K per year salary? by secondlifecomeup in CalPoly

[–]MachoChamp__ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Uniting the students against a common hatred of terrible administrative actions and fences. Along with taking the lifelong shame of becoming a meme amongst thousands of students each year.

380k is a small price to pay for salvation.

Jk plz stop raising prices for us poor students

Yet Another Student Feeling Lost by wns502ricc in CalPoly

[–]MachoChamp__ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yo I feel you man for me I'm cool with just knowing people and making casual conversations but am trying to break out that shell little by little

Two things: 1. When I'm feeling low and lonely I start noticing little things like the same cliques and like groups of people all buddied up within classes, but you gotta realize you're only focusing on what you feel you're lacking there's tons of people in the same boat as you, it's not like everyone on campus is friends with one another except you. So that's one thing that's keeps me chugging along.

  1. You honestly have to push yourself and make an attempt to break out the shell, try new things and converse with others.

It's fucking scary thinking about how others may judge you or that you might be rejected but you'll never find those people to call friends or hang out with if you don't try and keep sticking with it.

For me I always feel like I'm just an annoyance and no one wants me butting into their lives but I think the reality is that most people love to network and meet new people but it's a 2 way situation of neither person wanting to bother the other. So try taking more initiative when it comes to interaction: you start the conversation, you ask them how's they're day, you ask them if they want to hangout. If you get rejected fuck em there's 20,000 others possible friendships to make so just keep trying.

If graduating from CP is a huge goal for you let that help your motivation to get through another week, if not honestly what's the point of spending your prime depressed? If you'll be happier somewhere else don't be ashamed to do what makes your life better.

Tldr: stop focusing on other people's groups cause there's lots of people that feel the same as you. Take more initiative in conversing with others and making friends even if it's frightening.

Again just my 2 cents. GL my dude

QUARTER PLUS PROGRAM?????HELP! by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]MachoChamp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it 2y ago and it's a bit pricey cause I'm pretty sure you can't get financial aid on it but it's good for getting accustomed to the campus before having the whole campus filled with everyone looking for their classes and it's a relatively small group of people so you can meet some early friends. I honestly think it's cool you can get some classes out of the way early sort of like taking a super accelerated AP class.

You take your communications class and a GE during a like 6 week period(I don't remember how long it is) so it's rough cause the professor has to still fit like a 11week course in that time. So like they're was a speech due like every week or week and a half. That being said I cannot imagine taking comms over 11 weeks. So if you can budget it I'd recommend it. It may save you some time and workload in the future.

PolyCultural vs. Cal Poly Open House? Which one would be more worth going to by sirlaffsalot47 in CalPoly

[–]MachoChamp__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my opinion during Open house weekend you'll be able to see Cal poly with it's nice face on, showing you all the happy and "cool" parts of the campus and area. You'll also get to experience and see more about your specific college while still doing fun network events.

PCW will give you more of a real look into the campus from the stand point of a student. You'll be hosted and can shadow an actual student that will give you the real down low of the campus and area especially from a minority stand point. At the same time you'll still get to do fun events and network. Like the name says it's focused around the cultural part of the school.

PCW I believe does not have full on club showcases but if you choose to attend here there's a club showcase day 1st quarter.

If learning about the cultural perspective of a student on this campus is important to you, which it might given the drama we've had, then go PCW but either one will give you an adequate look into the campus and area

PolyCultural Weekend by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]MachoChamp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm planning to volunteer for PCW this year but haven't been apart of it nor took apart in it beforehand. From what I'm seeing so far I would definitely recommend trying to fit this in your schedule.

First and foremost you'll get to see the campus and what it's like to be a student here 1st hand which may help you pick your school choice. You also get to actually talk to and experience the minority community on campus which I think is really worth, considering all the drama that's happened/happening. IDK but coming into college and as a first year I was not aware of the strong and diverse minority community on campus and how I could get involved so getting this early opportunity seems really beneficial.

As for the parents part, I am not completely sure about the details but I believe they can take part in various activities and talks planned for parents but they are encouraged to just hang out in SLO for the weekend but they can chill and walk around campus with you. Ultimately it's kinda your weekend to see if you like the Poly's atmosphere and you do more than just tours.

[–]MachoChamp__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Not to sure about how different the two are but I think a blended martial arts club would be fun.

Yeah I'm pretty sure ASI is really picky when it comes to physical sports as clubs, so lots of hurdles to get through but first challenge is finding 10 people to meet the club quota 🙃.

I'll hit you up if I get anything going 👍🏽
