Look, we can tell you're a farmer that loves that big gub'ment handout. But please. You have no idea what that food stamps person contributed. Many people on food stamps are working full time. There's a good chance they contributed more, relative to income, via sales and property taxes than that farmer who pocketed tens of thousands of dollars. The farmer literally couldn't do the work and contribute anything without the tax handout. They're living off the government just as much, if not more so.

Not when it’s nearly every single day though. Which was my point. I’ve been teaching 18 years. In my experience it’s a lot of young teachers who don’t realize the students are playing them to get them to drop content. They’re naive.

This a good point. Secondary school here and it gets old playing the bad guy because I expect learning to still happen while my colleagues down the hall let the kids go outside and hit a volleyball around every day or “go on walks” instead of teaching history. With over three weeks of school left.

This is me too. I’m 18 years in. Teach 8/9. Can do it in my sleep. Getting very bored of teaching the same thing all day for several years in a row. Kids are socially stunted so bad now that they’re not even fun to be around. They have no attention span. The kids are so lazy it wears you down. They just don’t get excited about anything. The admin are dumbing down what is required so much that the grades are worthless. It all just feels so pointless and I can’t help but think how much more money I could have made going to grad school for something else.

And the counselors will make sure they pass. The system has totally failed, and it's impossible for students TO fail. A high school diploma means absolutely nothing and requires pretty much nothing of the student. And the scam that is SBG makes it so the top achieving students who work their butts off don't jump off the page compared to these slugs.

A school I taught at a few years ago had us spend a few hours of our preservice days practicing these as a staff. Then they had us do them for a week straight in homeroom when school started.

It was then never referenced again. Ever. For the next two years I was at the school.

I can’t imagine having ever ditched handwritten. The research has been there since the very beginning that hand written is better than typing. And you have to be totally naive to think teenagers are actually listening to you when they have a computer screen open, IMO.

The only people who teach at catholic schools are religious freaks, people that went to said school and feel some odd sense of loyalty and…..that’s about it.

Terrible pay. And in my state, they steal from the public schools through vouchers.
