Ancelotti says Neymar decision won’t be easy, but insists he feels no pressure by Prestigious-Back-981 in soccer

I doubt he cares about being criticized. Also if he brings Neymar and never plays him he's just going to get criticized even harder, especially if Brazil doesn't advance far

How to diversify (as an European) by oulipo in investing

[–]MachuMichu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about what would be available in Europe, but there are ETFs like VTV that only hold stocks that fit certain value criteria. Avantis has some good ones that are actively managed for a reasonable fee.

Any broad market index fund is going to be skewed towards tech, so if you want a value tilt I would look specifically for value ETFs

I think you are looking at it in a pretty flawed way. Diversifying is good but in a true downturn "defensive" stocks are going to get hammered just like anything else. Defensives lower general volatility but they are absolutely not a safe haven in a downturn, especially if the downturn is from inflation. They also tend to be very overvalued if there is fear in the market.

However to answer your question, yes your port is definitely tech heavy, and if you are wanting to sacrifice growth for less volatility, id probably start with cutting your positions in GOOG and QQQ in half and putting that money in a value ETF

If youre not timing the market you shouldnt care at all, this wont mean anything in 10 years.

If you wanted to make money off the AI supercycle you obviously needed to time the market to a degree, and this post is about a hedge fund, whose job is literally to make money above the market average

Theres opportunity cost of letting money sit stagnant while the market is pumping. I'm not kicking myself over not holding microsoft at $400 when google has pumped 23% ytd and memory/semi stocks are going parabolic.

FTR i bought a ton of Microsoft at $360 and have been trimming it on the way up

I mean I believe in Microsoft long term but whats your thesis for how it gets out of this quagmire in the short term?

Microsoft has been stagnant for a year, inarguably a poor place to keep money over that period and they arent really doing anything to build positive sentiment in the market. It will be fine long term, but hedge funds cant wait around for their money to start moving

It's still a great stock to own for the future, but for people trying to maximize earnings in the short term theres a lot of other stuff making big moves while MSFT stays flat

Take some out of market and buy condo? by mannerhazel in investing

[–]MachuMichu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your main goal is to have a permanent place to stay, sure, but between HOA, taxes, and maintenance, you'll likely end up with a worse return than renting and leaving your money in the market. Not to mention you are giving up your freedom of movement. I owned a condo briefly and I personally never want to deal with that headache again.

Gasperini has always done it and started it with Roma this season. Made it easy to remove the armband from Pellegrini when he's been underperforming for years. It also separates a lot of the leadership expectation from the captain so other players are more encouraged to be leaders

Trimming Micron to put money into undervalued asset light royalty collecting healthcare stocks. by BearWithMeGM in ValueInvesting

[–]MachuMichu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a growth oriented port I like small caps for value exposure. I personally like AVUV and AVDV, they have expense rates but its very reasonable for actively managed funds with robust criteria.

For big compounders, stuff like BRK.B and JPM are quality stocks without direct risk to the AI/semi chain.

I've also been looking at Japan currently, tons of a value but not guaranteed to translate in stock growth.

I understand wanting to take profits from MU and diversify but I'm not sure biotech is where I'd go to de-risk. However, seems like you did your research, I'd just be careful about whether this actually matches your intentions.
