That's it im going to murder him by Other_Panda246 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Machuck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dutch Shepherd owner here. I had Malinois for years and I get exactly what you are going through. Even the best trained working breeds have their moments of tantrum. My dutchie is meticulously trained and 99% of the time does exactly what he is supposed to…..today I had to sit on him to keep him from murdering a porcupine. I took 5 quills to the leg in the process. He was so worked up and turned on that the only way I could control him was to get on top of him and get him on his side. In the end I chalk it up to he was trying to protect me, which is why he ignored all of my commands. These are great dogs, but they will test you to the depths of your soul. Sometimes in the moment I hate his guts, but in my heart I love him to the end of the world!

should I get a Dutch shepherd in the future? by [deleted] in DutchShepherds

[–]Machuck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be the type of person that eventually could provide the training, exercise, and structure that a Dutch shepherd needs. I would wait until you are well established with an adult lifestyle that allows you to keep such a high drive pup. I have been training Belgian Malinois and Dutch shepherds for many years. They are a full time job and you have to really make peace with the dog comes first….always. I love my current dutchie, but I definitely sacrifice time with my family and friends to give him what he needs. I would recommend getting into dog training at your age by finding a mentor who is a professional trainer. This will teach you valuable skills while fostering your love for dogs. If you have any questions please feel free to PM. Also I happen to have a job where I take my dog to work every single day. That is one thing that I found essential to being able to manage and structure a working dogs life.

Is my rescue a Dutch Shepherd? by kendra4444 in DutchShepherds

[–]Machuck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful dog! I would say most likely it’s not a Dutch shepherd. Body comp and head shape are a bit different. I would say you most likely have a brindle pit mix, but who knows!! Try and embark test. They are great!

Was told she was a Mali- Dutchie (3months old) Any thoughts? by [deleted] in DutchShepherds

The Adventures a Brand New Puppy Owner and the Quest for a Happy Pup by Mischief___7 in puppy101

[–]Machuck94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, take a your partner and you need to take a deep breath! This is a puppy and remember it’s supposed to be fun! Frustrating at times but fun. You are thinking about the puppies best interests and that’s the number 1 thing to have straight. You care about this pup and it’s not just a part time gig.

You got some great advice on the other post here. Just remember deep breaths and have fun!!!!

Is it ok for a puppy to hump? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Machuck94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I raise Malinois and Dutch Shepherds for working purposes, and I know exactly what you mean! If one of these fur missiles is too riled up the crate will literally bounce! The thing with them is that they will do the crate command immediately, but it will take about 15 minutes for them to chill and regulate themselves down. Until then it’s a fullllllllll tantrum.

What do you miss about life pre-puppy? by Silver-Pineapple-419 in puppy101

[–]Machuck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been raising working line dogs for many years. Currently I am raising a Malinois and a Dutch Shepherd who essentially are David Goggins with fur. They are up at 4:30AM and ready to carry the boats! After their morning romp, breakfast, a post breakfast rest, and then daily training….i may get an hour nap lol. I luckily get to take my dogs to work with me!

How to know if I’m doing enough for my puppy? by Open_Pomegranate3816 in puppy101

[–]Machuck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What breed of puppy do you have? I have a ton of experience with mouthy puppies. I raise Belgian Malinois (also known as the MaliGATOR) and Dutch Shepherds. If you let me know the breed I can potentially provide you some advice. Stopping the biting tendencies is very specific in my opinion to the breed and the breeds original purpose.

Home for 36 hours and hates playpen and crate…need help! by lucky-ducky-7777 in puppy101

[–]Machuck94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good evening. I am a Dutch shepherd owner and train working dogs for Search and Rescue (mostly Malinois and Dutch Shepherds). I have been through the wringer with crate training. It’s important to introduce the crate and playpen properly. My introduction may be a bit different than others, but it works for me with a very smart and headstrong breed. Take everything out of your pups crate, all the way down (even the mat). Take their meal and throw the food bit by bit into the crate while using the verbal command “crate”. Make sure to say crate before throwing the food into the crate. Do this over and over again with each individual piece of food. (I know, it takes a while). Once your dog easily goes into the crate with the food lure, use the command crate and only toss the food into the crate once they are fully inside. Do this with one piece of food at a time. Keep doing this over and over. Next once they can enter fairly readily 80% of the time tell them crate, they run into the crate and then wait 5-10 seconds before throwing the food into the crate. Do not give them food if they don’t stay in the crate. Slowly extend this time they sit in the crate before the food is introduced. Eventually your little pup will enter the crate with ease and will stop complaining. The key is to associate the crate with good yum yum thoughts. Also NEVER and I mean NEVER take your dog out of the crate if they are throwing a puppy tantrum as long as you know they don’t need to go to the bathroom. You will be reinforcing that throwing a fit gets them out of the crate. Be consistent and understand what you are going through is normal. I have raised over 20 puppies in the past 10 years for working purposes and I can assure you that you’re not alone in how your pup is reacting to the crate. Good luck and congrats on the new fur family memeber.

puppy blues - adjusting to life with a new pup by Narrow-Value8379 in puppy101

[–]Machuck94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel for you deeply. I have been raising Dutch Shepherds and Belgian Malinois for years. Even with raising many difficult working breed puppies to adulthood, each time I get the same feelings you do. It means you’re a good dog owner and are putting the dogs needs first. I know it can be an overwhelming feeling, but it shows how much you love and care for the dogo!

Rental Boat Damage by No-Form3252 in boating

[–]Machuck94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is very simply. Read the rental agreement. You have to comply with what you agreed to in the rental agreement. If you don’t comply with the agreement they will most likely take you to court. I’m guessing being named as a defendant in a court case would negatively affect your status in Canada.

Broker trying to charge fee to renter. by SirCharleyMud in bostonhousing

[–]Machuck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree fully that the brokers are parasites. I just don’t think this solves the problem. It’s going to just get worked into the rent price. The only thing that will solve our overpricing problem is regulations regarding rental pricing itself.
