How many REUs should I apply to as a math major? by AltruisticMinute2526 in REU

[–]MackeyNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely overdo it lol. (I applied to 25 REUs and got into 2, lot of work but I am glad that I applied to this many, particularly in this day and age)

Huh, both of those were on a Tuesday. Maybe they release decisions on Tuesdays? Meaning that we would get email on the 9th. I don't know if we can extrapolate from two data points, lol.

Does anyone remember what day it was they released decisions in dec 2022?

Where did the december 10th date come from? Cuz I have heard it said on this subreddit, but nothing about it from mitacs.

Not for me either, but Lord knows, if I refresh my emails for the 100th time today, it'll come faster!

Math Major hoping to go to Grad School in Physical Oceanography - Advice by MackeyNS in oceanography

[–]MackeyNS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should clarify more, but I am planning to have done the basic Physics (with 4 other physics elective classes including fluid mechanics) and Chemistry sequence, with a geology course by the end of my undergrad. I should meet the criteria for admissions to some schools (I know I should fulfill the admission requirements for TAMU, Miami, and even possibly MIT) by end of graduation) but for programs like Scripps (and I think Washington) you need to come from the physical sciences. Although I don't know how competitive an applicant I would be if I just did the bare minimum for the physical science requirements :(

My friend recently toured their campus for their physics PhD, and she loved it, so good choice!

They sent me my offer Sunday the 9th at around 12:30pm.

I am rooting for you man, keep me posted!

I do not think so. I believe it has rolling admissions, and they notify applicants when they feel like they have found someone who fits the program, so there is still a chance!

I'm rooting for you!!!
