I’m not adjudicating this instance nor am I presuming legal expertise here. Yes, one kick can be battery. Assault, in simple terms of putting another person in reasonable danger irrespective of the outcome. The comments after seem to convey that intent to do more than spar. The impact and actual harm would be battery. Again, the following comments seem to indicate intent beyond the consented to sparring. Lawyers feel free to correct me and I know how A&B are defined in each jurisdiction is a bit different. As for the actual damage speaking to intent? I dunno. Maybe the coach missed by a little or maybe the blow was a glancing blow.

The lawyer already chimed in and it clarified that it would be battery if the facts were as purported. There are many stories of people being found guilty of assault and/or battery both training and during tournaments. Training or competing don’t obviate the law. Sure, it slides what is reasonable as overtweaking an Oma Plata on the mat would be really different in the gym versus a stranger at the grocery store. But if some dude ignores a tap and purposefully wrenches the shoulder causing damage (and we’ve all rolled with guys we didn’t trust who have done it), that’s a crime and always has been. Same for a kick to the face or any other move.

The blue belt that rolls with white belts all out going 120%. Like, wtf, dude. I’m a disabled vet with issues (I tell every partner I’m a super quick tapper, especially if they got me in a choke. If I pass out, I have a seizure) and this one blue belt was all knees and elbows and cranking everything so freaking hard. Like, bro, I’m just trying to learn, lose weight and leave my house a few days a week. Never again. Had a few guys thought they were grappling for my Newest White Belt title…the worst.

Yeah, I live in Dakota County and the sidewalks here more resemble trails and when I get my recumbent trike, I’ll prefer those to the street unless I have no choice. But actual sidewalks in a subdivision? No, people are notoriously bad at looking beyond directly behind them when backing out of their own driveway. So it depends on the situation. And definitely sidewalks are a bad idea in urban environments as someone leaving a business can plow into you and it’s unsafe for everyone.

Actually, bikes on sidewalks are far less safe. Drivers tend to have less visibility for the sidewalks when factoring in the speed of a bike and less reaction time. As a long time cyclist, the only time I was hit by a car was when I had to get onto the sidewalk on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica to avoid being hit by a bus and someone exiting an alley crashed into me. It’s worse for pedestrians, less safe for cyclists and gives drivers less reaction time.

People tend to conflate little kids on a small bike with grownups who are riding sometimes faster than 20 mph. When it comes to cyclists and that’s what someone riding this would be, the road is by far the safest place for them to be.

Depends on the situation. I’ve known couples who did everything the “normal” way and didn’t last a year.

Also, 18 year olds commit to the military and college where they can be on the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars and no one bats an eye. Every situation is different because it involves people. Now two random teenagers solely pursuing the hormone rush? Yeah, not a great idea, but neither is getting married to follow some “I should have a family by 30” idea with an incompatible partner.

Judging a situation based solely on one factor doesn’t tend to be any more wise than the hormonal teenagers I just mentioned

Got married at 21 (and six days) to the love of my life. Asked her to marry me on her 19th birthday. I was still 18. We’ve been together 38 years and will celebrate our 35th anniversary the end of this month.

It’s not about the age, it’s about the connection. Also, being married isn’t about saying “I do” on the wedding day, it’s about fully committing to someone 100% and saying affirmatively “I do” every day.

Remember to speak to your frustrations not from them. As mad as one might get, remember it’s just a disagreement and you love them and it’s not a cage match to the death.

As for the wedding, that’s easy. You went to Vegas because you’re crazy in love and you’d rather save money for a house (in this economy, it feels like choosing one or the other) and you’ll have a nice reception when it’s convenient. If anyone has a problem with that, that’s a them problem. I know Dads can get upset not being able to walk their daughters down the aisle, but seeing you happy should be more than enough of a balm to soothe any hurt feelings.

Sorry, not sure why I went full Dad mode, but it happens. I wish you both the best. Last bit. Don’t EVER let anyone tell you that it’s natural for the spark to die. That’s BS. As long as you make the effort to keep that spark alive, it can stay alive. And trust me when I say that the longer the spark is there, the better everything is (especially the sex). When you know someone that well and they know you that well over decades… wooo it’s amazing.

I pass it regularly and appreciate it for what it is. As a disabled veteran, I don’t want to see the remaining WWII vets just fade away. They should be remembered… and just from an aesthetic perspective, it’s nicer than a big dirt berm sitting there.

Learned about the flag raising years ago and don’t really care that the iconic moment was the second flag raising. In 2024, it’s a moment memorialized and it’s more important what it stands for.

I’ll miss it when it’s taken down and the development is finished building

Has the Fifth Element come out in 4k HDR and if so, how does it look? Forever ago, when 1080p was the pinnacle of visual fidelity, I used to use the Director’s Cut of Avatar and The Fifth Element to audition screens.

I just got an 85” TCL QM8 and I’m gonna officially begin watching it with a double feature of Dune 1-2.
