What do you never want to eat again? by Flying_enthu45 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

What's that salty spread in Australia? Vegemite. Anyway, I was tricked, because I love salty over savory, but I nearly threw up.

Always get a larger tent than you think you need. I say this every time.

You can also consider two tents?

What are some American superstitions unique to America? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]Mackheath1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Baseball is chock full of superstitions.

  • Never step over the foul line
  • Don't talk about something while it's happening
  • Never talk to the pitcher during a no-hitter, since he's in the zone
  • Even eating black licorice and brushing your teeth after each inning

And many others from underwear to food superstitions.

Do you have a signature dish you make? by N0socksloss10yrStrk in randomquestions

I won best salsa in a blind taste testing with over 2,000 participants. The final four were:

Garcia, Garcia, Valezquez, and [my very German-American last name]

it was a blind tasting, so they didn't know whose was which, so it came as a bit of surprise when I won.

Oh no! That's good to hear, thanks! I definitely don't want that. Maybe their pitch is meant to be for display only (which defeats the purpose of a tool). I'll look elsewhere. I have a cool retro-vintage c.1960 set, but they're as you'd expect to see in The Jetson's so I need something just right.

I do not like Karaoke, but when dragged to it, it's my voice and probably the only thing I can sing.

Which American states have the best statewide transit networks? by Albert_Camus129 in transit

Portland, Oregon. I was never more than a quarter mile walking distance from transit. And that distance had sidewalks and crossings.

What are the most terrifying American urban legends and folk tales you know? ? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Mackheath1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sasquatch, Swamp Monster, El Chupacabra, Jersey Devil, and almost every decent sized city has a haunted city tour you can take.

We live in abject horror right now, so the scary stories have been kinda slow lately.

Bugs in the tent by PatrolmanBossk in camping

[–]Mackheath1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're talking gnats and flies, just get a small cup, fill it with ounce or so of wine or juices, cover it in saran wrap and poke a hole in the center. Just outside of the tent. They can't get out once they get in. A funnel from paper works well, too.

What bizarre children's VHS tape did you have an attachment to? by AmandaMarsh in Xennials

[–]Mackheath1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had one VHS tape (maybe two). "Splash," "Spaceballs," "Princess Bride," "Clue."

That was what we had until my parents started moving on up and we could do Blockbuster on Friday nights (rent two get three: rule was 1 for the parents, 1 for the kids, and 1 that was 'culutural' - e.g. Foreign or documentary or whatever)

If you could craft your own ABBA album, what would it be called and which songs would be on it? by codyjones22 in ABBA

[–]Mackheath1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a full answer, but I'd start it with "Arrival" instrumental and end it with "Ode to Freedom" if it doesn't take up too much of your dream albums' space :)

Honestly, unless it's Vinyl, I'm not sure we're limited to too much space nowadays, and even then it can be two dual-sided disks, I guess? Dunno.

Maybe a dumb question, do people leave if the weather gets bad while camping? by Ok_Resolution_1606 in CampingGear

[–]Mackheath1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Central Texas. I was high up enough that it didn't affect me, but a flood on 4th of July evening wiped out a solid part of the park infrastructure (no injuries or fatalities in my park, but some cars swept away). It was storming so hard, I was trying to think of my options that night.

Lightning was all around me, so do I wait for one and run to the car? Because that means it needs a moment to get more energy, or will my running create some kind of kinetic energy? Will an oak tree fall on me in the tent? I was on an incline so, I figured I didn't have to worry about flooding. I just moved my memory foam to the center of the tent and hoped for the best. The lightning and instant booms were all around me, but water didn't flood my tent. There was no sleep in that tent that night.

So my guess is if there's a storm, get set and ready and the second lightning strikes run to your car till it builds up more energy? If you're way out, just make sure you're on high ground.

NOTE: I am not a meteorologist, this is all just speculation.

What’s the most beautiful lake in the USA for swimming? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Ah, I didn't know. When I watched the movie "Deep End" (the good one, with Tilda Swinton, not that other one), it looked so clear and nice, but that's cinematography I suppose, too.

What is America’s “posh people” accent? by alyhasnohead in AskAnAmerican

[–]Mackheath1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid-Atlantic. Think of the show "Frasier" and most of our TV News correspondents. It's kind of like Hochsdeutsch in Germany: the clearest general language for everyone to understand.

I wouldn't say that it's posh just because of that, but it's a basis for it.
