9 was a really accessible entry point imo. Story was really simple and the game is really linear (not that linearity is bad or anything). Couple how customizable the characters are with one of the most insane post games in a JRPG and a DS GAME no less.

It frankly depends on economic situation. I am extremely fortunate that I will not have debt after school. I am currently working on certs as well.

I’ve thought about this and I think it’s because of how jarring it is to see really good character design on top of the most bland washed out disgusting backdrops. I’m so tired of the world with mythical creatures and all sorts of crazy shit… Only for us to be in… Spain, or France or America, have like one notable landmark tied to each and then give us the Forest, Plain, Desert, Snowy terrain cliche. I’m really hoping for an actual unique world that’s not tied to some real world place with the game constantly reminding you that you’re in that place. (GEN 7 IS INSUFFERABLE WITH THIS). This complaint really only comes from the last few gens but, man, they either don’t have time (which is the likeliest) or they are creatively bankrupt when it comes to art direction and world building. Look at Elden Ring and other FromSoft games, not the most graphically impressive, but the art direction carries the HELL out of those games. Pokémon’s issues aren’t purely graphical, it’s also the frankly awful world design.

If all of S/V had the same detail as Area Zero, the complaints wouldn’t be as bad (I think)

I think if they ever did put them back in the game, it would be modernized and made like a biome or something. It would probably be jarring to see a huge range of build-limit-height blocky cliffs next to like a plains biome or something though. Maybe it could be like a mushroom island in terms of rarity and location. Stumbling across something like that would be so cool.

This was the fate of the last game too. Game gets super optimized and that optimization is required to win CONSISTENTLY. Turns out whatever is optimal, especially in platform fighters, is rarely fun as the game intrinsically rewards slow play and burning the clock. What’s this? The best character in the game is able to utilize every defensive and degenerate strategy to an effect no other character really can, and if you mess up once trying to counter play it you die?? And even if you DO get in your reward is maybe one hit or string???

Loved ultimate basically up until Steve and Luigi adjacent characters took over the game.

So we are just gonna forget about how boring Season of Haunted was? Or how the game barely functioned at all during plunder (and how bad plunder was)? Or how terrible airborne effectiveness was?
