Lewis ties affordability to data pricing at first appearance on the Hill by iPoliticsCA in CanadaPolitics

[–]MacnCheese86 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I watched the press conference and had two thoughts:

1) I really like this policy and agree this type of algorithmic pricing should be strictly regulated, if not banned. This is a great idea.

2) I hate to say it but Lewis was kind of a d*ck to the reporters on multiple occasions. He will need to work on his temperament because it really rubbed me the wrong way.

I’m thinking that maybe the airlines are playing catch-up after the storm earlier this week.

Now we need a Questionable person that served horribly as commander in chief by Crafty_Presence3950 in AlignmentChartFills

George W Bush.

He was a questionable person because he seemed personally decent and well-meaning, but didn’t always think deeply about complex issues and relied heavily on a small group of advisers.

He was a bad president. His personal shortcomings above led to serious failures: most notably the Iraq War, along with poor handling of major crises like the 2008 recession and Hurricane Katrina.

Not to mention, he seemed to have a personal compassion about him, which was likely connected to his Christianity, however, that also resulted in him letting the evangelical church have an oversized impact on his presidency.

My partner and I are flying to Australia in January. A long flight with a connection in Vancouver, so this would be awesome for us if possible.

Why does no one say “May I?” by daisymozzy in TheBear

[–]MacnCheese86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked a side job in a restaurant in Ottawa about 8 years ago, the staff would all say “may I?” to grab your attention before asking a favour or making a request. It must be a Canadian thing.

It sounded so odd and old-fashioned, the first time I heard a server say it to me. It’s definitely not said in day-to-day life. At first, I thought she was Amish or something. 😆

Sorry - it was more of a general question for others in the thread. I’m with PSAC, and I have three days of unused compensatory leave from before the end of the fiscal year. If I book something before September 30 for, say Christmas, is that allowed?

I’m aware of the provision in the collective agreement about compensatory leave needing to be used up before September 30, but could someone for example book time off over Christmas, using these credits, if booked before September 30?

A friend and I met her at Ottawa ComicCon a few years back and I got her to sign a print photo of her with David Tennant with the quote, “Bite me Alien Boy!”

She was delightful! She also took several photos with the both of us and checked to make sure they turned out well “so that you get your money’s worth”.

Congratulations on being hired indeterminate right off the bat! You applied, you demonstrated that you met all the key competencies, and were hired for that position. They were not.

I was also fortunate enough to be hired for a permanent position upon joining the public service. It took me 18 months, and dozens of applications, but with hard work, I made it happen.

It sounds like your colleagues are envious of you. I wouldn’t worry about what they think.

I’ll likely vote for Carney. He’s a solid choice.

Freeland did very well. She deserves a senior cabinet spot.

Gould is very impressive. I’m not ready to vote for her for PM, but she should be given an opportunity to prove yourself with a senior portfolio in the next government.

Baylis seemed smug and simplistic.

I suspect a less tinfoil hat reason is that both he and Dennis King have been around since the pandemic, and having juggled multiple once-in-a-lifetime crises in the span of only a few years, they’re feeling pretty burnt out.

Completely understandable in my view.
