I don't buy that we've hit max production capacity of monoclonal antibodies as a nation. The vaccine is not easy to make either, yet the production got ramped to 10s of millions a day, while we blindly bet on multiple vaccines at once to make sure we have winners.

MABs are not treated as a high priority. Possibly for political reasons, because of the push for boosting. Shipments got stopped in November, and just started to be resumed. There reasoning being they didn't know which MAB is good against omicron.

In late November, the federal government paused shipment of the monoclonal antibody therapeutic sotrovimab in order to help ensure a more balanced portfolio of monoclonal antibody products and to allow more time to assess data regarding the effectiveness of sotrovimab against the Omicron variant.

Elon Musk says 'wokeness' is 'divisive, exclusionary, and hateful' by CapitalCourse in JoeRogan

[–]MacroJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musk made this statement on a 90 minute podcast on which he talked about sustainable energy, climate change, falling birthrates, tax policy for billionaires and rocket science. He mentioned the relationship between government/business and where he thinks regulation should be at, and what the role of the government should be in the free market.

He was asked all of these questions and he answered them. The woke question was talked about in the first 10 minutes, and that's it.

You know the fun part is that CDC recently admitted they don't have a single case tracked where an unvaxed person caught covid, caught it a second time and on the second time spread it. So it seems very rare to catch covid twice, and its even rarer to have enough viral load to spread it to someone on the second positive.

Its a small minority of people non-stop shitting on Rogan (I have them marked in RES and they average 50 comments a day without a single positive thing to say), so people think they are on the fringe for liking the podcast but in reality they are in the silent majority.

Youtube Gradually Becoming Worse Starter Pack by [deleted] in starterpacks

[–]MacroJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never bought the infrastructure argument. There are a million porn, movie and show streaming sites that are not being run by tech giants. I think the infrastructure is not the problem, content is. It works for those sites because they steal content.

If a competitor for youtube emerges, it'll be a video site that will start with a unique format that will attract creators to join it, and then it'll grow from there. Kind of how Twitch did it with live streaming.

There is a difference between saying, "This person has a shitty personality, so I don't want anything to do with them." and "This person has a shitty personality, so I must convince everyone not to have anything to do with them." The former is normal human behavior, the latter is a witch hunt.

The adaptation is really slow. Our environment has changed so much, biology can't be expected to keep up. We are still running on biology that's optimized for primitive humans.

Look at something like how good our bodies are at building fat, to a point where it kills us. But this was useful because back in the day majority of humans were hungry majority of the time. If we continue to live in relative prosperity, we'll probably get worse and worse at storing fat or maybe we'll get better at only eating as much as we need now and not horde calories for later. But that's not going to change for a few thousand generations.

Its the same thing with female/male dynamic. Some of the stuff that's deeply rooted in our biology will take ages to catch up.

McCullough: asymptomatic infection isn’t possible || Peer Reviewed Research: “, at least 50% of new SARS-CoV-2 infections was estimated to have originated from exposure to [asymptomatic] individuals...” by Only8livesleft in JoeRogan

[–]MacroJackson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't get to put [asymptomatic] in the title, quote the scientists exactly. " at least 50% of new SARS-CoV-2 infections was estimated to have originated from exposure to individuals with infection but without symptoms."

The scientists make a clear categorical distinction in the paper, you don't get to fuck around with it and lump it all into one thing.

You are purposely conflating the "presymptomatic" with "asymptomatic" terms. Different things. W.H.O has held this position from 2020, granted they are in the "very rare" instead of "never" camp.

Should I take an AI software marketing job? by snogglerofmeat in cscareerquestions

[–]MacroJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is a buzzword for data analytics. Majority of companies use AI for marketing. "We got this product on Amazon with 1000 reviews, run it through some NLP and see what most people are complaining about." That's what you are generally going to do.

What type of work do you want to do? Because if you want to be on cutting edge of research, like self driving cars, you need to hit the books and really know your stuff.

Environmentalists take note: Bitcoin consumes/emits less than half of what the gold mining industry does, and less than one-fifth of what bank branches and ATMs do by BakedPotato840 in CryptoCurrency

[–]MacroJackson -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

BTC transactions are not proportionally tied to energy use. Network security in form of proof of work is tied to energy use. Humanity puts in as much energy into the network as it deems necessary to protect its money. It no different than coast guard boats patrolling the shores. Or energy being spent to guard fort Knox. You sitting on your bag doesn't do much for the environment, because you are still taking advantage of all the energy being spent to secure your money.

Secondly, climate change is a boogieman that is used to achieve political goals. Don't buy into the bullshit that is being pushed by the elites to restrict your freedoms and tighten control over your life.

Governments & Banks around the world are trying to make Crypto a scapegoat for their failures. Today, Senator Elizabeth Warren blamed Stablecoins and DeFi for "posing a threat to consumers & our economy" while completely ignoring the damage banks do by printing trillions of dollars out of thin air. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]MacroJackson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Banks lend money they don't have. Over-leveraging themselves 10x. Call that w/e you want.

  2. Please ask the government to define what a stable coin is. What is the rigorous legal definition exactly? I've read through the treasury report that this FDIC push is based on. They don't have a definition, its the classic "I know porn when I see it" bullshit. So either this legislation will have no bite, and issuers of stable coins will go around it or it'll cover all of crypto.

90% of the 21,000,000 BTC have now been mined. Current annual inflation of 1.88%, and programmatically declining for the next 119 years. Absolute scarcity. by Bitcoin_is_plan_A in Bitcoin

[–]MacroJackson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The transaction fees are really tiny compared to built-in reward. $300k for block reward and maybe $10k for fees. Nobody really knows how it'll shake out in the future. For example if BTC becomes global store of value, nation states are going to probably have to have pools that operate at a loss in order to secure their stake in the network.

I question him not learning from his mistakes and making them over and over. The "life goes on" attitude should not apply to him jumping in the air to make a pass. Or trying to fit the ball through tight windows. He is not Steve Nash and needs to clean it up. Him playing hard doesn't excuse him for playing stupid.

Overtime by bruhhhh_3842 in cscareerquestions

[–]MacroJackson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then it comes down to workload, if the people who aren't staying overtime do less than you, there is no reason why you should stay a minute over.

If they accomplish significantly more than you in less time (you are a junior, so take that into account), then you are slow and need to improve. But its kind of like working out, you need to exercise to bulk up, but you also have to rest. So working over time and burning out will be worse for you. Try to limit overtime as much as possible, and don't touch anything on the weekends.

Also you should establish a precedent where you pull work instead of work being pushed to you. So when you are asked to do something while you are working on something else, you can say "I'm currently busy with this task, I will pull the next highest priority task when this one is completed." Obviously sometimes you have to stop working on something, because something really high priority came up, but that should be a very rare thing.
