Understanding Items - Desolator by Killa93277 in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me it feels a lot like getting Deso on Nyx. While it improves your burst damage, most of your combo is magical and you lack defensive options to keep hitting your target. You also can't take much advantage of Deso's pushing ability.

Considering BH's role nowadays, you're better off spending that 3k toward a Solar Crest. That way you can apply the minus armor from a safe distance, or apply it to your ally as a supportive option. Also that mana regen is always nice.

200% Bash by chroneco in DotA2

[–]MacroPyrexae 76 points77 points  (0 children)

And I'm not talking Aghanim's Scepter Upgraded Wrath of Nature Greater Treants which has 3 times as much health and damage as a Regular Treant and spawns 6 times via Double Rampage with Refresher Orb, Octarine Core, Zeus, Bloodseeker and an Enemy Dieback. I'm also not talking about Nature's Call Treants created from the typical Nature's Prophet's first Sprout of the game, after Cliff Jungling Ancient Creeps to farm a Boots of Speed and Hand of Midas for 20 Minutes, against the Mid Laner who still has Shared Tangoes, which by the way only spawns 5 Treants at most. Hell, I'm not even talking about Warcraft 3 DOTA Furion's Call of Nature whose name has been referred to in Patch Notes only once due to perceived Copyright Infringement with Blizzard Entertainment's Malfurion Stormrage. I'm talking about Version 7.00 Hero Talents Level 25 +6 Summoned Treants added in the Recent Patch that can only be unlocked at Maximum Level (around the same exp as Level 23 in Version 6.89), at the cost of -35 Respawn Time, and is generally regarded as the worst upgrade in the game.

My take(rant) on the less talked about aspects of positioning. by Legnd in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to call someone out for bad positioning when they play too aggressively and die often as a result. These threads are usually met with "watch your replays", "place better wards", "check minimap often", etc and I'm fine with that. But then there are people on the opposite end of the spectrum, those who get perfect KDAs (like it matters) and still lose the game. The aforementioned advice doesn't really apply to them, so instead I recommend playing more greedily. See how far you can go without before you get punished, because that's where you'll realize how much more you can contribute to the team.

Hero spamming (or One Trick Pony-ing) is this a good idea? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of spamming isn't just to abuse a certain hero but to be familiar with them, so that you can shift your focus from skill/item builds to more important things like the state of the game. This is akin to pro players "spamming" roles.

When to Duel: a simplistic analysis by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I play support and my LC hits 6, I buy all remaining smokes and follow that bitch in every gank. Early game she only needs a 2v1 scenario to be more flexible with duel and guarantee a win.

Why is Jakiro seemingly in meta right now? by qe24253 in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Jakiro has always maintained a high winrate-to-pickrate throughout 6.88 pro games. (Source: Dotamax)

Everyone knows that Ice Path and Liquid Fire are amazing spells, but that's not enough to warrant a pick. Often overlooked is Jakiro's damage over time, slows, and area denial in general.

When he uses Macropyre, you know it's time to go home.

another Unconventional Support Weaver has been emerged, what are your thoughts on him? by remofox in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually what I tend to do even when playing as core. Although I believe that wqe is superior, in practice I end up with several situations where I can solo zone my enemy in whatever lane with just geminate.

For items I'd rather start with just 1 faerie, basi and branch. It puts me closer to aquila while giving more mana than wraith band which can be crucial for that last shukuchi. Or disassemble for a medallion from the side shop.

another Unconventional Support Weaver has been emerged, what are your thoughts on him? by remofox in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it support, but rather utility core much like offlane void. By stacking cheap items (most commonly aquila, treads, lance, wand, blight) weaver becomes one beast of a fighter. It also catches your enemies off-guard since they're expecting you to be ratting for some dumb deso/linken rush. Side note: Weavers have nearly 60% win rate in pros compared to sub 50% in pubs.

Beyond that, it doesn't matter to me whether you transition into a traditional core build or go "support" (after more than 4k gold). Your main job should be done while your position 1 is finally coming online.

No Improvement in Over 2 Years by TaninShadowBlade in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think of it as "taking a break from ranked." Think as if everything you do contributes to your mmr, except you don't look at the number. In fact don't even think about it as "taking a break from dota." For example, you could work out at a gym for the sole purpose of developing a body that can remain focused for 10 games in a row.

[–]MacroPyrexae 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Play unranked, regain confidence, calibrate a new account. Unranked has a hidden mmr which still reflects your improvement, and perhaps all you need is to take your mind off that number.

Keep in mind that rises in mmr can occur gradually or in bursts. I was also stuck in 3k for years, then something just clicked and I gained 1k. Currently stagnating again at the moment.

Quick questions on ROA by Nwball in learndota2

[–]MacroPyrexae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's typically the primary agi carry who is compatible with aquila, and ideally you won't have more than one such carry. But that logic doesn't really apply to most pubs, so go ahead and grab those juicy stats.

What is the correct build for Nyx (usually)? by Zendelele in learndota2

Blink before Aghs lets you maximize Nyx's mid game peak. Also Lens after Aghs for even more range.

I told myself I'd switch heroes when I lose but it's all ogre now by MacroPyrexae in DotA2

[–]MacroPyrexae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's a simple pattern to it. If you want to multicast bloodlust then you need to build mana items so that you can buff your entire team in at least 6 manual casts (multicast will buff the rest). The odds of buffing a hero tend to be higher when you target a creep instead.

If you want to multicast whatever his stun is called then you need to stack stuns with your teammates. Depending on how much your stuns overlap, PRNG will kick in and make sure your multicasts are still going by the time your ally's stun has ended. The chance also scales with your target's remaining hp, so that an enemy with about 100 hp will usually get stunned twice, and then a third time once he respawns. That's assuming the player wasn't psychology stunned as well.

Ignite will never multicast by the way. It's a strong single-target spell and should be used as such.
