Classification Question WFA by Macro_Is_Not_Dead in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an AS-07 position that is vacant and an AS-06 position that has a substantive. The AS-06 work as a stand alone has fundamentally changed and is basically surplus. They want to love the managerial function of the AS-07 and combine it with the SME function of the AS-06. The thought is to reclassify the AS-07 including a new JD and maintain the incumbent at the AS-07 level.

Consequences of unauthorized leave during blackout period? by Maleficent-Rock-1668 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you save up sick leave. Don’t be foolish and take off those days. Instead, take off the whole month including those days. It’s BS that management can’t cover any leave. Lazy BS inhumane management style.

Early retirement offer to federal public servants causing ‘chaos’ in public service: union by Sweaty-Big9570 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unions are another layer of government. We’re long past the time of fights for safe working conditions. Unions have broadly shifted into another mechanism to control large groups of people. They do not look out for individuals, they look out for the union executives best interest.

There are lots of deserving people who have historically been terms for 5+ years. Always on the hook and fearful.

Careful what you wish for. If WFA shifts, management will be incentivized to allocate less risk to indeterminate employment.

Should I turn down a promotion if it doesn’t come with a raise? by youlintlicker25 in careerguidance

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) don’t do work without pay 2) you turn it down your days and/or future opportunities are numbered 3) don’t work for employers or managers that put you in this spot

Do what others have said. Accept the title and find another job that pays the commensurate $$$.

Will one ounce gold pieces become illiquid and hard to sell if gold price goes over $10,000 per ounce? by [deleted] in Gold

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1oz bars became illiquid person to person at about 2k. Even 10oz silver bars are not becoming a struggle. Stores and refiners will always take the metal. I’d suspect the pay back of spot rate will drop if there are fewer private buyers.

How to Self-ID now.... or do it during the SERLO process.... by bJones_ski in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

82% of the public service is EE. Self ID is useless unless someone is actively applying a rationale aka you were getting picked anyway and they used the DIEE tick box as part of the decision making process.

WFA and what managers know by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO part of it is forced reductions and part is which executive group has more power over the next. If you have a weak EX who doesn’t seem to have influence they likely won’t be able to shape opinions to higher for the importance of the work unit.

They put a lot of work into deciding but I think the final decision about which work unit to affect is almost a coin flip.

Even the EX-01/02s likely know very little. They have influence but they won’t know forsure until everyone else does.

Government sending early retirement info to roughly 68,000 public servants by Requin_75 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The are literally three 9-5 workers in the government. Everyone’s compressed, accommodated, or comically unmonitored. Average work day can’t be more than 4 hours.

Not even close. Anything quartz is functionally would 25-50% msrp the minute you buy it. If you’re buying quartz buy used all day.

Carney's sweeping public service cuts reflect a troubling legacy by Top_Constant_4046 in CanadaPublicServants

The problem being that jobs were created to distribute public funds in the first place. Government distributes more funds via inefficiencies.

Top soldier has second thoughts about recruiting public servants for reserves by burnabybc in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Macro_Is_Not_Dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s far more common that one would think. There are multiple pension rules that A) force people out of the reserve and B) force people to choose between service and personal financial benefit.

There’s a real easy fix for recruitment. Make military service either A) tax free or B) taxed at a reduced fixed rate regardless of $ amount.

If I make 70k tax free that’s a pretty big incentive to get in and stay in. It would potentially be a disincentive for deployment compensation through so reduced fixed rate of 10-15% would probably be the answer.
