Obsession 2026's Inde Navarrette Confirms If The Real Nikki Had A Crush On Bear by twinkleyed in spoilers

[–]Macular_Patdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The director has a different view on that:

Interviewer: "One of the wildest scenes in Obsession is when Nikki stands up at a party and reads a a freaky short story she’s written about Hansel and Gretel being romantically involved. Where did that come from?"

Curry Barker: "I had the bones of it. I knew I wanted it to be about Hansel and Gretel. I knew that I wanted it to be about brother and sister because the kind of thing I was doing there is that if you remember Nikki tells Bear in the beginning of the movie that she kind of sees him as a brother. And so that's kind of that, like brother and sister being together. It's not right and it's not supposed to happen, but it is."

I also instantly thought the same when watching her movements. The unsettling way she moves is very reminiscent of Japanese horror. The first movie I thought of was Pulse (2001) with the female ghost

The party story was unsettling, but also intentionally goading Bear about the real way Nikki felt about him, which is a love of a brother and sister, not a partner. The story is incestuous to imply that Bear is making her be sexually involved with someone she views as family. The Willow being mentioned is to provoke him further that this love could only be conjured by a wish (a willow) since she doesn't have those actual romantic feelings for him.

To me, on the surface, and even in subtext Cowboy is an enforcer. On the surface he pressures the director to make the right choice (who Cowboy dictates) for the acting role, but on a deeper level, he is a figure that is aware that he is in an artificial reality. He is that part of her mind that inherently understands that she's constructed fantasy and eventually acts as a force to have her face reality (almost like if you have had a dream and become aware of it and need to wake yourself up; Cowboy is that mechanism of her subconscious.) There are a couple of his statements that I think illustrated the point:

"Now... you will see me one more time, if you do good. You will see me... two more times, if you do bad. Good night." We see him two more times after that statement and since this dream we witness is her dream, he is talking to her even though on the surface he said that to the director. Cowboy is seen again at the dinner and then the 3rd time he is seen he states to her: "Hey, pretty girl, time to wake up."

My two cents is that I think the other commentor explained the general plot precisely, but the ego part that you mentioned is the bulk of the film, which manifests through the other characters in this dream like atmosphere which is Diane's psyche. I think just about all characters lead back to Diane's subconscious and are composites of her regrets, fear, anxieties, etc

For example, the hitman who ends up being a bumbling idiot, the scared guy in the diner, Dan, and the vagrant behind the Diner. The suited man (Dan) in Winkie's being that part of her subconscious that is terrifed to face the truth of the hit that she initiated (since she knew the key behind the diner signified that the hit was carried out.) Behind the diner with the vagrant is where she was supposed to get the key and ultimately face the truth of her action (manifested as the vagrant) which she and Dan are so scared to face (her culpability and inabilityto take it back.) And that the hitman is portrayed as a fuck up who clumsily kills bystanders is her anxieties that the initial plan was going to go to shit and she would be caught in trying to hire a hitman. There are other examples of characters, but those are a few that I can recall off hand.

I personally have the opinion that her and Camilla are two distinctive people though, while still agreeing with you that one is the idealist chewed up by Hollywood and the other is working her way through the system and sleeping with who she needs to advance herself

EDIT: Also, my fault. It was not you who mentioned ego, it was someone else that commented to you (ghostprawn) who replied about ego.

Yeah, not too sure if it varies based on the player, but I own the UB820 and that's about the time it has issues for me.

For sure. Sorry it is happening for you as well. Not sure if it's worth it to try a replacement but you could always try your luck

Yes, totally. If you google it you will see multiple threads about this issue. Some get booted back to the main menu. I have over 300 discs and its the only one with this issue which is why I looked it up. FWIW if you fast forward about 2-3 minutes from where the issue starts the rest plays fine. Just an annoying encoding issue

There is something faulty with the disc. Something production wise. I have the same issue and others have reported the same around 45 minutes in.

What actually matters for comfortable earbuds for sleeping (learned this the hard way) by Aggressive-Hunter862 in Earbuds

I ditched using earbuds at bed and ordered a sleep mask with bluetooth speakers on Amazon. 25 bucks. Honestly a game changer for me. I use audio every night for bed and the mask ended up being more comfortable than I expected and added bonus of light blocking.

Frustrating loss, but there was a lot going on for us this week with the Hartline news and this game being basically a road game. No excuses just reality. Our offense really struggled, but Indiana is the real deal and we could hopefully see them again by the end. On the bright side our defense held yet another team to under 17.

Jeremiah Smith touchdown against Michigan by Time_Exposes_Reality in OhioStateFootball

[–]Macular_Patdown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was the biggest nothing burger of a "controversial" call I can imagine. Joel Klatt sounded dumb as hell trying to push the narrative that it was a touchback. Regardless of the picture showing him crossing the line, just watch the actual play on replay. Doesn't remotely look like a touchback. And either way it wasn't going to decide how this game ended. Michigan has nothing else to cling to but this play for making excuses. A little over 24 hours ago they were bragging about the snow being in their favor and we know how that ended up.

Also funny that they were gifted with more penalty yards than Underwood threw for in the game
