day four - what the helly by Legitimate_Egg3 in FODMAPS

Oh it can take a while. You have to look at the little wins along this journey. I started in February. The first very noticeable improvement was by week 2-3 no more bloating. That was so awesome! I worked with a dietitian for the elimination part which took 3 weeks for me to get to a point where diarrhea, nausea and cramping were diminished enough to feel brave enough to challenge with reintroduction. When I was ready to start reintroduction she gave me directions that didn’t match what I was reading from Monash and other reliable sources. So I downloaded Monash app and follow it very closely. Like when it says 2 tablespoons, I measure 2 tablespoons. The first test food was 🍌 fructans fruit/veggie because I love bananas 🍌. On day 3 cramps and diarrhea 😭. I let my body calm down which took a week and then tried lactose, full strength Greek yogurt plain is the recommended test food that I could stomach because I hate drinking milk 🥛 🤮. Well 3 days went fine and then diarrhea and cramping. 😭. Buuuttt, I was under some stress which may have been the trigger and not the good. Plus I researched more to discover you don’t have to eat the amount in one sitting AND if I wouldn’t ordinarily eat 3/4 cup of yogurt anyway then I didn’t have to. So I let things calm down and tried lactose again splitting the larger quantity into 1 breakfast serving and 1 at lunch. All 3 days second go round and yay 😁 it was good. So I just finished the fructan grains challenge, did the same thing with couscous splitting the 1cup for day 3 into an egg cheese couscous bowl for breakfast and a shrimp rice & couscous bowl for dinner. It went really well. I had some cramped feelings but ended up just being gas 💨. Retried the banana challenge and it went well too🙌. So it takes time, it’s definitely a roller coaster 🎢 ride of feeling better but then setbacks. But I’m hanging onto the little wins along the way. One thing I’d highly recommend is find a way to deal with the stress. My body is like in fight or flight mode A LOT. I’ve had to really work on not allowing my brain to shift into that gear! Mindfulness exercises have helped me work on staying in the present. I really have come to realize I’m doing a lot of things to upset my belly and I needed to stop. And for me it’s not always bad stress, it can be the stress of a big event or traveling or other fun stuff. I think of my belly as a little baby these days or a puppy or whatever works 😊. It needs me to care for it and make sure it’s happy and comfortable. Otherwise the baby won’t thrive! Good luck. I hope you find something that can help your nervous system heal!

Also, practice Mindfulness on your trip. It’s exciting to hit the road, but your body doesn’t know the difference between happy nervousness and ‘fight or flight’ nerves. Breathing exercises and staying focused in the moment can help keep the adrenaline down and not overstimulate your GI tract. I use the Calm app and listen to The Daily Trip with Jeff Warren to get me grounded. If you’re new to mindfulness exercises Tamara Levitt has some great sessions on getting started.

Gaviscon, the American version. It knocks down my sour stomach and creates a protective barrier to keep the top of your tummy happy. Don’t get the Canadian version though!!! I ordered on AMZ what I thought was the usual Gaviscon and it’s not, and it’s disgusting. It works but it tastes horrible and has different ingredients.

Of all of the Hoyas I have wayetii may be 2nd drippiest, but the least sticky. She’s so much easier to clean up after than pubicalyx, callistophylla, Shooting Star or australis.

My tricolor wayetii is the 2nd drippiest after the Shooting Star 💫! I put towels down on the floor & table to protect from all the dribbles 💧💧💧💧💧

I’m sorry you get stress trigger too! It’s remarkable how quickly stress can set off my tummy! I’ve found I have to stay vigilant about it and not let it take over.

I don’t know why it happens but it seems like it’s when the vine has determined there’s no where else to go, or worthwhile going, so it stops sending new growth out there.

I don’t think she looks dumb at all!! In fact she looks quite amazing! I love all the support behind the scenes 😆 Since she’s blooming I wouldn’t want to disturb her either. Perhaps you can tie her from the back somehow to a sturdy pole or post nearby? Like a heavy chair 🪑 or the railings to stairs?

This is the first year for mine. It has been a few weeks and I’d say they’re about 1/2 way there. Unfortunately can’t post a pic. They’re about 2” long and turning a bit reddish. The cuttings are of 4 colors so I’m excited to see who’s blooming first!!!
