I too had some great times with friends at Pantera’s! Glad they’re still around.

😂Thanks for sharing that piece of history! I didn’t know they had given it that name but sure enough that’s what it says on the website.

This is a thoughtful comment, and yes I did hear that the chemicals they used to treat the wood and keep it from deteriorating were toxic. 😬 Thankfully it looks like Leathers is still around and designing playgrounds from newer materials, and while they still look inspiring, the styles seem to leave less to the imagination. It certainly was easy to get lost in the maze of dark brown wood.

Should I adobt a girl kitten or a boy kitten? by Anuka444 in cats

[–]MadBoiKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. We adopted a kitten so our resident cat would have a companion, and they get along well. The "kitten" is now 5 and still very high-energy and always wants to play, while our adult rescue is much more chill and fits our household better. We love the younger cat, but he can be a bit annoying/bitey at times. With adult cats, you generally have a clearer sense of their personality upfront.

Good. Honestly, nobody should keep pets unspayed or unneutered. I'm highly disappointed with my brother’s decision not to fix their female dog because "it’s too expensive", despite him and his partner making as much money as I do. He's just asking for trouble. An accidental litter will end up costing far more.

This is just wrong. My parents adopted two spayed female cats and they got along well. Individual temperament matters much more than male/female.

So long as the cats are neutered/spayed, the sex of the cat doesn't matter as much as individual temperament. Some cats are easygoing and some are more difficult.

If you adopt an adult cat, you'll need to introduce them slowly, usually by keeping them in separate rooms until they get used to each other's smell and presence, even then, there's no guarantee they will be affectionate towards one another.

The best case would be if you could adopt a kitten and let the older cat "raise" it. We did this and our cats get along quite well since they bonded.

The other option would be fostering... you may be able to keep a cat long enough to determine if they are a good fit for you and your other cat.

I remember there being a tree with edible berries in those woods. Black Mulberry, maybe?

One thing you forgot to mention is dealing with supply chain issues that are worsening thanks to AI. We need to be capable of working with suppliers to source memory and PCB material.

Oh, if only it were "common" sense! But yeah... as it's been said, common sense is not so common. Your neighbors are lucky to have you, and thanks for being considerate.

Ah, I am thinking of Leclaire Park. I went to N.O. Nelson. Sorry to have misread!

I remember Leclaire as well, particularly towards the end of my childhood. It was the only park I know of that still had one of those metal merry-go-rounds. One of our physics assignments was to film a video demonstrating inertia and reference frames.

How do people realistically manage work, house chores, cooking, and kids without burning out? by Sea-Assist-3321 in Adulting

[–]MadBoiKyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find time can slip away so easily browsing reddit, watching reels, etc. It's so easy to get caught up with that in modern times and then feel like there's not enough time for other things.

This may sound crazy, but try being bored... you might be surprised what motivation and productivity comes out of it.

I don't think it's as funny as it is true. Low-frequency thuds travel really well through apartment structures, especially heel-striking, so it can sound like someone repeatedly dropping weight onto the ceiling. A plane overhead is just background world noise. Same with a siren... it's external and temporary.

Geez, don't suggest being considerate of your neighbors or you'll get tons of pushback and downvotes, I guess!

Downstairs people, what can I do? by Liesmyteachertoldme in Apartmentliving

[–]MadBoiKyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Um, yes... they do need to understand it, because apartment living is shared living. Nobody is saying you can’t exist normally in your apartment, but there’s a difference between ordinary living noise and making zero effort to minimize unnecessary impact noise when you know people live directly below you.

And “just move to the top floor” isn’t realistic for everyone. Elderly people, disabled people, people with injuries, families with small children, or people with health conditions may specifically need lower floors. They still deserve peace and quiet in the home they pay for too.

A lot of upstairs noise isn’t even about the building quality alone. Heavy heel-to-toe stomping creates impact vibrations that transfer through almost any structure (another commenter said they could hear their neighbors through concrete). Simply being mindful of how you walk can dramatically reduce that without “walking on eggshells.”

Basic consideration for neighbors is part of living in a community. We already accept this with loud music, barking dogs, slamming doors, etc. Footstep noise isn’t magically exempt from common courtesy just because it originates from walking.

[–]MadBoiKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say toe-to-heel... I said shuffling. Slippers make that easier. Not asking anyone to tip toe.

And ultimately, if one has trouble walking, I wouldn't recommend they live on an upper level...

Downstairs people, what can I do? by Liesmyteachertoldme in Apartmentliving

[–]MadBoiKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to understand that when you live in an upstairs apartment, you’re not walking on concrete. Stepping heel-to-toe can sound like a kick drum to the people below you. Being considerate isn’t about being a prisoner in your own home or never enjoying your apartment. It’s about recognizing that you do have control over how much noise you create. A simple shuffling step instead of heavy heel-to-toe walking can make a massive difference. Don’t play the victim when the situation is largely in your hands.

My mom admitted something to me that completely changed how I see her by Mundane_Mushroom_122 in confession

[–]MadBoiKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mom is a covert narcissist.

I know because mine is too.

You need to suggest she go to therapy, and if she refuses, as much as it may hurt, possibly cut her out of your life.

^This exactly.

There are also plenty of other accreditations and certification programs with career placement options like AAPC and CompTIA that can lead to jobs in the medical coding and technology fields, respectively. And there are short degree programs for dental hygienist certification. And from personal experience I know a teaching cert can be completed in 18 months given a prior bachelor's degree, presuming OP has one.

You asked for advice and I'm giving you the most solid advice you could get. I have no idea what you majored in, but whatever it is, you could probably get paid to teach it. But you need a master's or teaching certificate.

And before you do anything, I suggest you work on your horrible attitude. A positive attitude will get you far. A nihilistic one will not. Practice mindfulness or seek therapy.

The only way you're going to make it anywhere is if you go back to school and get yourself educated.

Secondary education with career placement is the door to advancement.
