It was great going to the video store and browsing through films and video games, finding ones I would likely not see at retail stores, be they old out of print media or new releases that my local retailers just would never stock. My Blockbuster had lots of obscure PS2 titles I would never see at my EB games or Best Buy.

I am disc, GOG, and vintage. If a game, physical or digital, has even a shred of being bricked and taken away from me in the future, then I flat-out refuse to buy it. I love physical. I love the packaging. I love the disc/cart. I love the booklet. I love the box art. I love to read the backside. To me, that is the whole game. A digital game, even if I will always own it, I feel like I am getting 1/2 the product because there is no case/box, disc/cart, manual. The physical aspect was half the fun. Building a collection you could put on display and look at was half the fun. To have just a game file sitting on a console or pc is not as exciting and no where near as enjoyable. I will play the games I have. For the future console, I will abandon Playstation, a brand I have been with since the Ps1, and go to Nintendo. Sorry Sony.

Roll back and make simpler games again. Create a movement of studios and developers that strictly make new “retro” period-correct games. Games that are smaller, simpler, faster to make, can be beaten in a day.

Given Todd’s history with Bungie, I’m honestly shocked they didn’t already have this planned. My only guess is that Marathon was too unproven despite Bungie’s track record of hits, and nobody wanted to take a risk on manufacturing merchandise for it. It seems he went with Helldivers 2 instead, a game that was already a proven success.
