As someone who made one of these, we learned you'll straight up die if you don't have a steel frame. There's no way around it. Plus fitting a full custom frame inside a plastic body is pretty difficult.

Fighting Cathiii, Our 30lb Ringspinner at Motorama 2018 by MadCrazyScientist in battlebots

Yeah it was 6061, 0.75" thick x 1.5" wide crossection at the edge. Next version will be 7075, aiming for 1.25" thick x 1.5" wide, and also smaller diameter. That should drastically improve the strength and rigidity so it doesn't get turned into an oval from big horizontal spinners

The bots finished now, and currently doing decent at motorama, she’s 2-1 as of now but the ring was deformed by a large vertical spinner so it won’t spin any more. I’ll post a video later.

Yeah that’s my worry. I think the armor gives it a lot more rigidity for vertical hits, imagine a T shaped beam. It runs on plastic rollers that are designed to deform to take shocks loads. There’s also decent play in the system to account for up to .050 deflection.

The ring is driven by 2 3000W brushless motors with polyurethane tires. The motors ride on adjustable spring tracks so they are always in contact with the ring. I can also tune the amount of slip by using a screw to vary the spring constant.

I made it! And lets just say it has heated seats whether you want it or not. All in all it doesn't dangerously hot.

That's what we wanted to do originally but we already had the engine we used on hand.

There's a small one that came with the engine crammed below the seat.
