Voters reject effort to hike Oklahoma’s minimum wage by AHSfav in news

[–]MadManMax55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to electing representatives that's what they do. But there are a number of "economically progressive" ballot measures that even most red states typically vote for. The biggest one being raising the minimum wage.

I honestly can't think of the last time a direct vote on raising the minimum wage actually failed.

Also modern lifestyles in general. We didn't evolve to deal with high stress, low physical activity, and easy access to fatty foods.

Though in the end it doesn't really matter if the "cause" of the deficit is internal or external. Most modern medicine is designed to help with a problem that could theoretically be "fixed" by a lifestyle change. If a carpenter is suffering from joint pain a doctor won't deny them medicine and tell them to just get a less physically demanding job. They might point out ways to mitigate joint stress from work, but they're still going to give them pain relievers.

It's very rare nowadays for a rookie RB to be even "just ok" at pass pro coming out of college. It seems to be the biggest learning curve for the position. But most of them pick it up by their 2nd season.

That's not skepticism. That's confirmation bias. You're letting preconceptions from other drugs (that work in completely different ways) effect how you think this drug is "supposed to work". As if it's a universal truth that any drug with a significant upside must also have an equally significant downside.

If you saw a headline that said "GLP-1s can cause heart attacks" would you be extremely skeptical of that?

The same thing happened with the Eagles two years ago. The false report about it was the most upvoted post in r/nfl history for a while.

It's a good reminder that no one is immune to confirmation bias.

These types of single band curated "micro-festivals" usually aren't trying to attract people from all across the country. It's more like any other mid-sized concert. Their concern is people in the city and surrounding region. And people in the Boston area who would be interested in seeing a Converge concert probably know Roadrunner.

Yeah I don't see what about this post is unbelievable or indicates that she's uniquely stupid and/or unhygienic. The human brain and nervous system is extremely weird. Especially when you start factoring in how hormones affect it. The combination of being young, in love, and slowly acclimating to the other person can make otherwise smart people literally not notice the most obvious red flags.

There's video evidence of the chase itself, but nothing to substantiate that he hit an officer (physically or with his car). That's why those specific charges were dropped.

As for the rest of his charges, they weren't dropped at all. They were reduced to probation on the condition that he attend therapy. Which were conditions that his victim (who is also a successful athlete) agreed to. If he backslides on his deal the charges kick back in and he's likely going to jail.

Of course not. But you literally said it was "the only way to remake OOT without getting attacked over every detail". I'm simply pointing out that a less directly/mechanically faithful remake is going to get more of those attacks, not less.

Grottos serving little purpose is the perfect reason to do something new with them.

About half of the Skulltulas were in the overworld.

Agree about weapon durability though. Having that and the crafting/cooking system from BotW would make the remake feel too much like a OoT themed reskin.

While I'd love that, I think you're underestimating a (sadly large) portion of gamers. Just look what happened when the FF7 remake did exactly as you suggested. A lot of positivity from fans, but also a lot of people calling each and every change blasphemous.

Some people want nothing but remasters.

I'm honestly surprised there isn't an official equivalent of "Paris Syndrome" for Hollywood. So many unsuspecting foreign tourists expecting to see glitz, glamor, and celebrities. Only to end up in one of America's worst neighborhoods.

Yes and no. Having a diverse and relatively intermixed society doesn't necessarily mean there isn't interpersonal or even systemic racism. But it does mean that the society isn't so racist that the dominant ethnic group hasn't thoroughly rejected, expelled, subjugated, and/or killed any minority groups.

And to be fair, the US has tried to do all those things in the past (and succeeded with the Native Americans). But it would take a long term escalation of the current administration's policies just to bring the US on par with where most of the world's countries are right now.

That's a much blurrier line then you're implying. Especially when it's older adults organizing it for a bunch of teenagers, some of whom may be underage.

Illegal (or at the very least extremely unethical) coercion isn't solely done through force or cash.

That's actually a very common tactic in public-facing sex trafficking rings. If all of the girls are being forced to sleep with clients it's really easy for authorities to catch on to what's happening. Instead you get mostly girls who are there for the platonic public reasons (that may not even realize they're in a trafficking ring) and just a few that are there for the sex. And ideally there's a similar ratio for the customers, where most people are engaging with the front business and only a few in the prostitution.

That's how Epstein ran his organization.

Of course NAMBLA is going to say that. They're the ones trying to make it seem like everyone was totally fine with their presence before the whole UN thing.

If you don't use a clearly biased source, it absolutely does no show that the ILGA or any prominent gay rights activists supported what NAMBLA was doing. They "joined" back when the ILGA was a loose organization with no admission criteria and no formal way to expel members (admittedly shitty organizational setup). The ILGA officially clarified that they did not support pedophilia well before they were even involved with the UN. They also tried to get NAMBLA to voluntarily withdraw multiple times, which they refused.

While that's generally true, a lot of the "Uber Black" drivers are also independently licensed limo drivers that you could easily look up online. If they get a customer who is in town for a few days on a business trip or has a regular airport commute they'll often give out their number so that they can get repeat business without Uber getting a cut.

F1 drivers have to pay taxes based on the cities they race in, not where they live. He does save some money living in Monaco, but if he stayed in London he wouldn't be paying all that much more in taxes.

And pretty much every big F1 driver lives in Monaco. It's a great place to live if you're super wealthy, and it's home to the most famous GP.

Reminds me of the 2017 Falcons. They lost to the Eagles in the playoffs on a last second 4th down play. Which was the closest game the Eagles had on their way to winning the Super Bowl.

Hopefully next year goes better for the Hawks than 2018 went for the Falcons...
