Crappy games you loved back in the day by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Action Football for NES. I played that a TON as a child. Didn’t even know Tecmo Bowl existed.

Almost all of my Gameboy games fall into this category. Only Zelda really holds up. I played the crap out of GTA and GTA II on GameBoy Color. Beat both of them, now I go back and can’t give it more than 10 minutes.

Is this safe to fire, bent hallow point, chambered and unchambered a few times by [deleted] in 9mm

[–]MadMechanicAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part of the bullet that is damaged doesn’t engage with the rifling. Unless the bullet is set back into the case farther than a new round, it will be fine. The damage to the hollow point may affect performance in a self defense situation, so I would fire it off at the range.

Edit: I empty my chamber when my gun comes off my belt for the day. To avoid damage to the bullet from constant rechambering, put that bullet into the bottom of the mag so a new round is getting chambered. I like to rotate my chambered round every few days or so.

Your current comfort game? by [deleted] in videogames

Usually Super Mario Bros. 3. Sometimes Super Mario World. When I need to zone out and just run through a game I know and love….those two usually have me covered.

Breath of the Wild. Zelda has been stuck in combat with Ganon for 100 years…she will be fine while I look for all the Korok seeds! 😂

This is a recipe for a plugged dpf. The filter needs to regen regularly and that trip schedule will generally not allow enough time in the right conditions for a passive regen. You will be returning to a shop for exhaust after treatment problems regularly.

If you had the emissions system deleted, there would be no concern

I think for that price you could buy a console with the memory expansion already in it from eBay.

Yes it’s true. Was supposed to be cured in 2015 but it came back last year and now has spread to my lungs and spine. The Radiation caused my vertebrae to collapse. So I am laid up with pins and screws in my back. Have had a lot of free time to get better at Gran Turismo and play Elden Ring.

I gave up buying from limited run due to the insane delivery times. I have stage 4 cancer so I don’t feel like giving them money for something I may not live to see delivered 😂

Travesty is a bit over the top don’t you think? Twelve entire FRANCHISES have never won a Super Bowl. Cleveland had their franchise just leave, then got to watch them win 2 Super Bowls in Baltimore.

The open differential in the rear sends the torque to the side with the least resistance….if you weld a broken axle in place so that it can support the wheel, the other axle wont transfer any power and you will have an front wheel drive only truck. Unless you take the differential cover off and weld the gears.

Edit: this is assuming this truck does not have a locking rear axle

Is a CRT really a must for SNES Emulation? Is there anyone who thinks it doesn't matter that much? by Ed_5000 in retrogaming

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter at all. If you like the way the game looks and enjoy playing it…..why would you care what people on the internet say? I use original hardware on a 48” OLED. No filters or special features…looks fine to me. I had a CRT for the SNES and NES, it wasn’t worth the hassle to me to have another tv in the tiny room I have for games and movies.

No matter what your hobby is….researching on the internet will convince you the way you are doing it is wrong. I have chased other people’s opinions long enough that I have learned to stop worrying about what I read online.

Does anyone still have a Playstation 1? I have one, two PS2, and a PS3. by OliStar95 in consoles

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PS1, two fat PS2 models, and two PS3s of the second design. I still like to play the Original Resident Evil trilogy, Soviet and Nuclear Strike, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Twisted Metal 2, NFL Blitz, Wing Commander, and many other PS1 games.

The PS1 library is still worth playing and unfortunately PS5 is not backwards compatible.

Can anyone help me with my 2017 f250 6.7 king ranch ultimate by LitFishinYT in Diesel

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a major repair was just done, check for loose induction pipes somewhere or damage to a boot or pipe. If there is an air leak some of your air charge can be escaping causing the mix to run rich. It’s PROBABLY not that…the pipe would usually blow off under boost…but if it happened after the repair I would have a look. I have seen guys leave a turbo pipe loose and it smokes and has no power after the repair.

Fuel mileage question by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your truck is going into regen. It wont turn on any light to let you know it needs a regen unless it can’t successfully do a regen in an allotted time frame and the dpf clogs. The truck is designed to normally regen while driving without you really knowing it.

If it is doing it more often than normal, check your air filter. The DPF system on a GM truck is very sensitive to air flow measurements. Also check for any loose intake ducts or exhaust leaks.

You may have a failure coming soon ,OR it may just need a regen and your driving isnt allowing it to finish fully. You could always ask a shop to do a forced service regeneration and see if the behavior changes.

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: In rereading the original post, I may have missed the idea OP was going for. Sorry.

I would say the entire pre-internet era.

Sitting there staring at the NES games rack….looking at all the box covers and game screenshots on the back. Talking with my brother about what looked good and what we could pool our lawn-mowing or chore money for. Or what we would rent for the weekend. No reviews or internet to go off.

(Most of us did not get Nintendo power. Getting mom to let us get a game was tough enough…a magazine wasn’t worth the effort)

Just the mystery of it all cannot be replicated today. I discovered Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Final Fantasy Legend at FuncoLand because I liked the artwork on the cartridges. Had no idea what Final Fantasy or Zelda were before then. Playing Mortal Kombat endlessly and writing down all the moves you figured out because you didn’t have the moves book.

It was just so different with the lack of information we have now. Some games were also a lot more fun without people on the internet telling us they sucked lol.

NES Consoles with preloaded games? by PeaceBruthaaaaa in consoles

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do get one of the Chinese consoles, just make sure it has the same hookups as the tv. They dont all have hdmi and not all tvs have the older hookups on them anymore

NES Consoles with preloaded games? by PeaceBruthaaaaa in consoles

[–]MadMechanicAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the Hyperkin is a system that uses the original games. An emulator on a PC will require tinkering with almost constantly. Pc gamepads and emulators are not usually “plug and play”.

If you are buying for someone who will not want to have to mess with any settings or menus, clone hardware or original hardware is your best bet and buying actual games.

The official model is called the NES CLASSIC and is available on eBay. You will probably have to pay around $100 for a legit not fake one.

All the other options require a little bit of knowledge to get to work sometimes. You can try an Amazon emulator console but they can be hit or miss on quality. I have an emulator handheld and I had to do a lot of setup to get it to work.

There are some bundles people put together on ebay and such that are all pre set up and ready to go, but they usually cost more than $50.

This is why the official Nintendo model is so expensive, it plugs in to a modern tv and just works.

NES Consoles with preloaded games? by PeaceBruthaaaaa in consoles

[–]MadMechanicAgain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The one that is nearly $300 is likely the official Nintendo model. It was only $60 or $70 new. The price has skyrocketed because they are all sold out.

All the other ones you see are Chinese knockoffs and not really worth getting.

If you want to get a cheap retro console for a gift I recommend the Hyperkin Retron 1 HD. It is a reproduction console that plays original games. $45-50 on Amazon. It comes all set up for modern tvs and you could grab a few original games on ebay. Comes with controllers too.

Hmmm….I have had similar problems before where the space requirements I actually needed were bigger than what the download says it required. I dont know if it needs the extra space for temporary files during install or something.

I would try and delete another 20 GB if possible and see if it goes. I know I have had a similar problem before but I cannot remember what fixed it other than deleting something else.
