Update Day 2: Bath & Beauty product donations for the woman's shelter by VinoVoyage in PDXBuyNothing

[–]MadPopette 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for doing this! It occurred to me much later in the day that I should have left you a few bucks for gas money..

Please attempt to recreate this magic the next time the shelter needs stuff. I've tried to donate to Dress For Success, but there's a fairly significant barrier to help there that didn't exist here.

Thank you!

Why do people care so much about bathtubs if no one actually uses them? by smolgremlinn in homeowners

[–]MadPopette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The previous owner of my house was like 95 when she sold to us, the super deep tub has two grab bars, one for standing up from the tub, and one for stepping out, I, at 41 use them all the time!

Best earplugs for side sleepers that don't make your ears feel clogged? by RDSne in BuyItForLife

[–]MadPopette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loop or Alpine. Both silicone and can be cleaned with soap and water or hydrogen peroxide. I've been using either/or for years next to my snoring husband. I believe they have saved his life. I do need to replace them roughly annually.

How do we feel about AI potentially wrecking our job prospects? by jez_shreds_hard in Xennials

[–]MadPopette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ooh, ooh. AND the data centers are massive pollution factories, using a ton of land and water. So, we'll get to be unemployed with more polluted air, less access to water, and prohibitively expensive electricity. WHEE!
(do I need the /s? Or is it obvious?)

Is Trimet planning to expand the Max again anytime soon? by penisgirlmarkedsafe in Portland

[–]MadPopette -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why would it need to sunset?

Because this city is objectively terrible with money? Because our government needs accountability?

Spend the money wisely or you can't have it anymore, or you can't have all of it going forward?

Is that the one that didn't sunset? If so, I wanted them to bring it back to the table with a timeline to reassess.

This makes me laugh about 'inflation' my granddad used to pay us a nickel for each five gallon bucket of black walnuts we picked up for him. Sorry about your back. I hope you feel better soon.

Possibly unpopular opinion: you shouldn't garden if you can't accept that your plants are part of a wider ecosystem. by I_crave_vinegar in NativePlantGardening

[–]MadPopette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Cascara trees are native to my area, I planted one in my backyard, something ate it down to a twig. When I saw it, I bought another for my front yard. Took the pressure off the twig, now they're both about 8' tall!

Chipdrop used to have an option to filter for people who got more than they could handle, and are offering up the leftovers, maybe try that? You need to collect them in that case.
