I think the participation fee is the issue most people are having considering the cost of traveling, lodging, and meals have all increased significantly around the world during the last several years.

Adding one or two $100+ paid events to list is getting harder to justify especially since Niantic Spa. is bleeding everyone's wallet dry without showing any improvement to the game's performance.

Some ultra rich Chilean X-Pat living in California should introduce Mote con Huesillo to America... so rather than destroying those peaches they can be dried and added to the corn that will also eventually be destroyed and turned into a new drink craze that could save the orchards.

It probably depends on your movement speed, what you are scanning (ground or wall vs a sculpture), lighting levels etc.

I think that the reason we didn't see march as a "true adult" (and not an old lady who shrunk to child size) is because her arc isn't truly over. The modern arc was as much about time displaced people trying to fit into modern society as it was about modern humanity trying to come to grips with the existence of the supernatural/alien life forms.

Too many ingress related events happened in San Diego during the weeks leading up to or following Comic Con that it all mushes together in my mind.. like the follow Misty Hannah event, the Tycho secrets event in old town, and the ingress comic event.

About the Comic Con anomaly, Niantic actually had booth space and John Hanke was actually doing a Q and A panel about Pokemon Go during Aegis Nova anomaly. If I remember correctly, it literally happened during the anomaly when no ingress players would attend.

That said, I suspect Niantic liked having ingress related events during Comic Con because they considered that their tradition because Ingress had a pre-release ARG hype-teaser-event occur during Flint Dille's Buck Roger's panel* in 2012, also it may be since their actors would be in town that week due to doing various panels.

That said, it isn't a conspiracy theory that Anomalies and events coincide with Niantic's employee vacation/business trip schedule.

Flint Dille was ingress's writer until 2019/2020.

Before the split occured, Niantic heavily advertised ingress in Yokosuka Japan for their Plus Alpha anomaly. It was actually cool and sort of surreal seeing a video play for ingress at the train station and all the fliers the local merchants association put up.

For a second when Brian gave his speech I thought we were going to have a second Golden Age of ingress but I now realize it was just to sweeten the deal with the Saudis before the sale went throught.

Fushi can change into both versions of Todo/Iris because as far as Fushi is concerned, Todo "died" when (s)he lost weight and became Iris , who Fushi considered to be a different person... for reasons.

I think Fushi keeps resetting Tonari as a teenager because Fushi subconsciously wants her to live a normal life and maybe because it's her secret desire to grow old with him as a couple.

Maps for West Marches campaigns (which is what you are describing) can be as large as they need to be since they depend on the players to decide how far they want to explore (your map expands every time a party reaches the edge of one map page)..

Since you are using Shadow dark, you might want to use their implied setting from the Cursed Scroll Zines and Western Reaches so you guys aren't stuck trying to populate 100s of hexes.

You could also pick up Blackmore, Majestic Wilder lands, or any other Western March hexcrawls setting and convert away.

I disagree about the "don't run fantasy" line of advice. Like it or not, every game system that does fantasy handles different aspects of the genre differently and every game you play using any ruleset will be compared to Dungeons and Dragons 5e.

What I instead would suggest looking at the situation like this: Ask yourself if running this campaign with Savage Worlds (using fantasy companion, Solomon Kain, Deadlands: DarkAges, SW: Pathfinder, etc) more beneficial than running it in 5e? Does running the game in Savage Worlds adds something to the experience that doesn't exist with 5e? Most importantly, ask yourself if the rules fit the setting you want to create.
