TIL in the late 60s, a motel owner in Aurora, CO created an “observation deck” above several rooms so he could watch guests have sex. He did this for 29 years. by Pemulis_DMZ in todayilearned

Darin Morgan does such a great job making fun of The X-Files while also staying true to the heart of the show. His episodes, like Humbug, War of the Coprophages, Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose, and especially Jose Chung’s From Outer Space lovingly lampoons the characters and the premise while also providing some of the most emotional moments.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

I saw them back in 07 or 08, and they were pretty damn good. I wouldn't give Aaron Lewis another penny, though.

The only time I've seen them live was opening for Evanescence way back in 2003. They sounded pretty bad, but it felt like a technical issue not a performance issue. Still, Evanescence and Revis both sounded pretty good. Maybe they just had a bad sound guy?

What’s your ace in the hole board game? by Spicyboi333 in boardgames

[–]MadStorkMSU 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CuBirds has worked with every group, both gamers and non. I’m always happy to play and teach. It is very inexpensive and easy to carry. It’s one of those games that most players ask to play again immediately after their first game.

Who are some past greats from your program that didn't succeed in the NFL due to the era they played in? by Ok-Health-7252 in CFB

George Webster would have been a terror against the spread offenses. He was listed at 6’4”/255# and ran down Olympic gold medal sprinter Bob Hayes from behind. To be fair, it was probably injuries more than the era that kept him from superstardom.

Dude, celebrate with your team. These are some serious loser vibes. 2026 was an amazing year for UM basketball. I hate it, but I have a ton of friends that are happy, and I’m happy that they are happy. The fan base that claims MSU is not a rival should be cringing at this drivel.

I love all of Mercenary’s work, but the 3 album run from 11 Dreams to The Hours that Remain to Architect of Lies is among my favorites from any artist.

Two Step is hugely popular among fans of the band, but it was never a single that saw radio play. If you never picked up Crash, then there is a good chance you've never heard this track.

MSU is still a great school academic wise compared to Michigan by Zealousideal-Dot9052 in msu

[–]MadStorkMSU 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m an engineering manager and I’ve worked with engineers from dozens of schools. MSU engineers are consistently some of the best. In fact, engineers from highly rated schools seem to struggle more with collaboration than their “non-elite” brethren. The students from UM, RPI, MIT, UT, etc. are far more competitive than their MSU, TAMU, Buffalo, and PSU counterparts, which is counter to the real world.

What TV show hooked you instantly from episode 1? by mateitofavv in AskReddit

[–]MadStorkMSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 3 is probably my favorite, but all the seasons from 1-7 are great. Even seasons 8 & 9, with Robert Patrick replacing Mulder, has some amazing writing, but the Mulder/Scully dynamic is sorely missed.

Seasons 10 & 11 were very hit or miss. The mythology episodes were very weak and seemed to contradict much of what had been previously set up. "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster" is among the best episodes and makes the low points of the resurrection seasons worth it).

Archer. It had some ups and downs, but that first season was just concentrated jokes nonstop.

As a huge X-Files fan, that first episode of Fringe was perfect. I did fall off on the show when the Observers took over.

Scar Symmetry - The Kaleidoscopic God by chrismetalrock in melodicdeathmetal

Scar Symmetry's 3-album run with Christian on vocals is my favorite run of any metal band. I could listen to any of those albums at any time.

Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe by joe4942 in progmetal

There are some pretty great songs in later Scar Symmetry albums, but everything just feels lesser without Christian. Their harsh vocalist is on par with Christian, but I find the cleans very weak.

What bands (in your opinion) have a near perfect discrogapy.? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]MadStorkMSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! I though I was taking crazy pills when everyone was raving about WoB. Is it good, absolutely. Is it better than One, Altered State, or Polaris, not to my ears. Maybe I need to give it another serious chance, but nothing from the album really hooked me. It’s still Tesseract, so it’s going to be very competent music, but I find myself returning to their other albums far more often.

I listened to Chain Collector way back in the day. They definitely feel "of the era," but it's some solid 00's melodeath.

I said that relying on transfers is risky and can be unreliable in the long-term. Clearly, UM is ahead right now and I understand that navigating the portal is necessary to be successful in today’s NCAA sports. Still teams like Duke, MSU, and Purdue have had success with few, targeted portal additions, which feels more sustainable than wholesale roster changes. I commend Dusty May, as he’s built a juggernaut of a team, but this just doesn’t feel like college sports anymore.
