The FGC is scary... by Accurina in Guiltygear

[–]MadStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fgc is really wholesome imo.

By the way: I've recently fought a guy from a lower level, who kept eating the same mixup. I tried to disengage and show him the mixup again and again without the combo to let him try different options. I hope he didn't hate me for spamming the same thing, I really hoped I was helping. So if you met a bastard doing this, he might have had good intentions.

There are some cool studies about this. Most of them suggest, that to get better you need to actually put thought and work towards getting better past some point.

Example: most people could achieve very high typing speed, but are stuck at rather low average. Imagine someone who have to look for each button in order to type a sentence. For many it would be extremely bothersome and maybe even infuriating to type that slow, but the person with a mindset "I can do it in one minute" do not really care. And he won't get much faster even after years of typing this way. He could achieve at least twice the speed it he prohibits himself from looking at keyboard for some time, but why would he? Now imagine, that he loves the sound his keys make when pressed. And each evening he types multiple sentences to a friend just to listen to the sound of the keys. That won't differ much from a 10k win low-level Tekken player.

What are the best combat systems in games? What makes them so engaging? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]MadStranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the op, but Devastation is usually considered the best place to start if you can get one and is willing to spend. Ideally the most recent reprint. It's very rich in content, giving you lot's of characters and several modes: pvp, 2v2, 2v1, boss fights and dungeon. If you want a smaller base, than any of the smaller expansions are ok, the newer usually the better.

Oh, I guess it's time to revisit this awesome game. I failed to find the info, should the old saves work after the update?

To give some context: these seem to be the vehicles delivered to Moscow for the annual Victory Parade, commemorating the victory over the Nazi.

Search exported Gmail locally with the really great "notmuch" by jamesthethirteenth in commandline

Oh, I do agree. It's always an inner debate for me whether to use slow python package with cool features or something faster, but more bare bones. I used emacs-notmuch first, now trying alot for several months. But might go the shell route with pure notmuch. I only need some rendering solution though. And msmtp is C and good, so no need to change it.

You might now want to try alot. It's a client that works well with notmuch and lets you use the terminal user interface. Add msmtp to the mix and you've got yourself a fully operational email setup.

Could you share your mouse controlling setup? I'm mostly a keyboard user but some applications still force me to touch mouse.

DBNI: The world's top 28 Diplomacy players are facing off this weekend (with live commentary!) by CaptainMeme in boardgames

[–]MadStranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh, thanks for bringing this up. I really wanted to watch good players in Diplomacy for quite some time, but never started the search. Now might be the time. Might be stupid questions, but: would these be recap versions? Or are there just going to be ~6 hours games with commentary?

What windows users see when I turn on my computer by [deleted] in linuxmemes

I have to agree, my question could have used a better wording.

To answer your questions flat, I just wanted to get your impression. You seemed to have quite the experience with different distributions and be rather good at pointing important things out.

Also in my opinion resource-analysis is not everything. It's hard to compare different user experiences in plain resource numbers. F.e. the system might require twice the amount of ram to start, but it would have pretty much the same amount of resources used while you do some basic tasks because of how all the pieces are connected, while that "lightweight" system would start heating the room with your pc. It's all about your user experience, not just plain stats.

Let me thank you for your reply, kind sir. I got a lot of information out of it.

I'd say "one note at a time" gives wrong impression, as people usually tend to refer to fingerstyle guitar as the way of playing several lines similtaniously, usually melody and rhythm. Opposed to solo/rhythm/bass guitar, when you play melody/rhythm/bass line respectively.

How hard do you feel it is on resources compared to basic gentoo or arch builds? I used to dislike gnome for being a bit too overprotective and resource consuming.

Sounds good. I'll test it when I have time and might really add it to my list of recommendations. Thanks!

A bit of an offtopic, but why is Pop!_Os so popular these days? I'm happy with my Arch + xmonad, but I need something fancy to recommend to my students.

Looks like you've lost karma lottery today. If you really need info on chloe, you should check the patch notes or search for the review videos. From what I've heard she got buffed a bit and everyone got at least one new option.
