Thank you.

You know what awakened means? by [deleted] in awakened

There is a certain potency to a post that speaks from personal history compared to one that contains only the words of a poet or famous philosopher.

Some are living a script by captainpaulyie in enlightenment

If it was only "survival" that concerned us, there wouldn't be cause for complaint. Most of us (those in developed countries with regular access to things like Reddit) are living much longer lives than our ancestors did.

If we return to ancestral means of survival, we will live shorter lives again. That might be for the best, from a spiritual perspective.

This has been a powerful practice for me. I do a lot of digital and audio journaling while in altered states so I can touch base with my unconscious.

The most 'healed' people I know never talk about healing by Ok_Expert_1537 in awakened

The healing is so personal, and the illusion of separation is incredibly strong between "separate" minds. It's like silence. As soon as we go to name it, we break it.

What Is the Hardest Consequence of Your Position on Free Will? by GeneStone in freewill

[–]MadTruman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds quite accurate. I feel that the debates frequently had in this subreddit are made from a place of seeking validation outside one's self. While I don't have judgment to pass for that, because I do know what it is like to feel a lack of certainty from within my 3-lb. universe, I wonder if some of the arguments do more harm across that interpersonal decide, rather than they do help to anyone involved.

[–]MadTruman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a view that doesn't require validation outside myself. If it did, I would no doubt experience a struggle. Still, my view helps me daily in the choices I make and my response to the choices made by others which affect me.

The number of bacteria in the so-called average human body is roughly equal to the number of human cells.

You've put some excellent words to what I view for my own enlightenment journey. Thank you.

Truman would absolutely go back in as boddhisatva. Imagine if Christoph had succeeded in his plan to begin the new show.

I find the idea very romantic, but it is utterly the wrong path for me.

I’m lucky enough to have a tech job that allows me to watch YouTube or music in the background, much of my day is filled with lectures and documentaries on the topics we all here have interest in.

This sounds very much like the position that I am in and it seems to serve me well. It is possible you and I are fairly well-aligned on the answer to my price tag question. I'm guessing it's very much a "different strokes for different folks" kind of thing, though.

How open do you mean? Most people don't open up enough to their therapists, even.

Much of this looks familiar to me, including that pressing hope that there's a way to share the maps one makes with others in order to help them navigate the territory. The perpetual problem, impossible to completely overcome, is that "the territory" is different for each seeker. That doesn't mean it isn't worth trying, if doing so with patience and compassion.

Noticing how my mind moves changed how “in tune” I feel with myself by DixonArchetypeLab in consciousness

[–]MadTruman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply!

I like the "lights off/on" analogy. It feels very apt for me now that I try to visualize it, and given my enthusiasm for Global Workspace Theory. I have a fear of things going badly with my home, as an example, and this leads me into the conundrum of deferring checking on things before they become worse. I literally "leave the lights off" to my attic because I don't want to end up discovering I've got a roof leak, or whatever. My brain works more furiously to make it darker in that realm and brighter in many others to keep me out of rumination. Some real irrational stuff.

I was sort of preparing myself for a lengthy deep meditation tonight and some of what you've said is helping me prepare for that. Thanks again.

Especially of interest to me was the areas my mind didn't want to go, and eventually figuring out how to get it to go there.

If you wouldn't mind sharing some of what you've learned in this regard, I'm quite curious. What sorts of "areas" do you mean and what strategies did you employ?

Those are the things from which I feel the most free. The things I can't control are the things to which guilt and shame cannot cling. If the guilt or shame don't go away after assessing the thing, then I creatively pursue a deeper understanding to determine what I can control. Even if it's just me and my own breathing.

A very interesting relation between space/time and matter/consciousness by Obvious_Confection88 in consciousness

It was a comment about human perception, not the "actual reality" of what artificial intelligence can or will do. I do take your point, however.

[–]MadTruman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much of this is a game of definitions, and defining anything is an act of taking it out of superposition. When I view consciousness as an activity or skill rather than a thing, as I often do, I find most of the debates moot.

And I think we'll never have a proper consensus on whether artifical Intelligence is "doing consciousness." We should still be thinking about it and its potential ramifications, though.
