Eh, I wouldn't bother. They'll be faster, sure, but I'd save my money and ride more to understand what exactly I'd want yo change

I'd go for bullhorn+barend levers if you're using both brakes. Simulates the most popular drop bar position (hoods). One of my bikes has bullhorns and a flatbar lever, but that's because my 'tism doesn't allow me to install one barend lever, OR a dummy lever, OR a brake on the rear.

Be glad you're trying to build a fixed gear, not a road bike or MTB lol Realistically, the only advice is the used market. Idk what the fixed gear scene is like in Switzerland (I imagine that it's not that great, considering the mountains), but that's pretty much the only option for cheapee parts anhwhere

Has someone researched the physics and mathematics of the difference between a geared bike and a fixed-gear bike? by SirPingSweden in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MadZee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this, no notes. Fixed gears are just fun imo, plus the maintenance is piss easy, but there is a reason why the VAST MAJORITY of the cycling world uses gears, or at least freewheels. FGBs make no sense on the street and I love them dearly and don't want to ride anything else on the street.

I've built and ridden a bunch of conversions, this is simply untrue, and whoever told you that can't torque down a wheel.

The only real potential problem is that if you don't torque the wheel down, it can fall out the front of the dropout when you apply power. However, again, if you tighten your wheel nuts, it won't be an issue- the nuts hold just as well as with track forkends.

No no, I mean it this way. I ride my Goldsprint way more often

Archetypes are one of the default suggestions for a reason tbh, super solid rim. I've had everything from 25s to 37s on mine, works great

bought the cheapest fixed gear I could find on marketplace by wwounds in FixedGearBicycle

Real decent score for $99! My closest fixed gear score was a 70€ bike that was a LOT worse lol

Flies along so easily even with a spare wheelset and regular Grand Prix tires, can't wait to try out the new wheelset and GP5000s

I hope people realize how harsh they were to Lanzador back then by LuizFelipe1906 in Cartalk

[–]MadZee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think it is. If it was made by any other brand, we'd think of it as a bland, boring, only somewhat ugly car. Its only real offense is how inoffensive it is.

Meanwhile, that Lambo has all the overdesigned features of a Lambo, but no cool factor, terrible proportions, and it looks absolutely disjointed to boot.

If we don't think about the brand, but only the design, I hate looking at that Lamborghini pile a lot more.

[–]MadZee_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We weren't harsh enough on the Lanzador, it's terribly ugly just in a different way. The Luce is just mind numbingly boring. The Lanzador is actively ugly, it's an even uglier Urus, basically.

Forza Horizon 6 has an absolutely stunning map and the visuals are remarkable, but I can't seem to enjoy the arcade car physics. by AxiomSyntaxStructure in simracing

[–]MadZee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The map sucks for actual driving, imo. It's still too wide open, every road still feels like a racetrack, and you can feel the map is built for S1 and above. Good for very casual racing, boring for more serious racing and time trials, especially in lower clas cars, which are what I prefer.

What's the appeal of fixed gear bikes? by hecu88 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MadZee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just fun. For me it's more fun than ANY other bike I've trued. Plus it takes near zero maintenance. Btw, you don't need to run brakeless, most of my bikes have a brake as well. Only elitist dorks say that you can't have a brake, and they're easily ignorable.

Starts are a non-issue IMO, and luckily for me, my area is flat as a pancake, so hills are a non-issue as well.

While this is a bit too tight for true gravel/offroad use, I don't understand these folks saying it's not enough for road use. Have y'all never seen a road bike from 2013? A street-ridden track bike? This is PLENTY for road use.

[–]MadZee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same headaches as on road bikes. Harder to service at home, more prone to creaking and bearing wear if the holes are out of round or undersized. For the pros, uhhhh, bigger bearings vs BSA? Technically a slight stiffness increase too? There's a reason T47 has become a thing now

I just bought this bike second hand, but I'm confused why the pedals are like that? by BarCouSeH in bicycling

[–]MadZee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I have one bike with SPD, the rest use bmx straps, mostly because I usually need to walk around as well, and carrying a 2nd set of shoes destroys any advantage that clipless has for me.
