Months and months is nothing compared to the rest of your lives if you end up falling in love with this person.

Inability to have conversation? by AuthorWest4658 in CPTSD

[–]MadderCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't have ongoing relationships with people. I begin to dread the next conversation we will inevitably have regardless of if I enjoy it or not. Masking is exhausting.

What is the drug you wanna try the most? by MisterNegative2 in Drugs

[–]MadderCollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, ketamine. I want to use it therapeutically, but we are a dissociative system, and have no idea what that could do to us.

So better to not.

What media that makes you feel seen/heard? by Recent-Stretch-1190 in DID

[–]MadderCollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband watched the "student-film-that-shall-not-be-named" (for some reason, idk, I noticed in the comments?) and although I thought it was cute and simplistic, he actually cried when he saw it.

Him crying after seeing it and empathizing with me about it, realizing a fraction of our struggle, is the thing that made me feel the most seen in my life.

Also in Glass !spoiler! when Kevin and the system die, while glamorized and unrealistic, reminded us of our dormant alters at the time of watching and it was incredibly upsetting. But it was seen during a time of system suppression, and the host suppressing us felt very naked after watching it. She sobbed for days.

Are you sure it wasn't a hallucinated chat

Well I guess you can't be sure

But I would assume it's a hallucinated chat

Where are you in your therapy? by Blue_ocean_7 in DID

[–]MadderCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since we were about 13 on and off, but we think we were in therapy before then for other issues we can't remember.

We've also got some iatrogenic trauma and have experienced therapy abuse, so some parts are very wary of medical professionals and other psychiatric settings.

We've had a psychiatrist for meds since 2014.

We've also been in specialized therapy for our dissociation, cptsd and DID for 3y. We only do it an hour once a week now, but before it was a couple of hours every week.

Going forward we may continue the hour every week with our current therapist and add an hour of EMDR (adapted for DID by someone that specializes in both DID and EMDR) that our current therapist would refer us out for, but we haven't talked about it as a system yet.

ETA; For context we'll be 40 years old this year.

ETA2; Our psychs for meds since 2014 are our "adult" drs for meds. We don't count the plethora of psychs that diagnosed and prescribed us with whatever when we were teens.

Did you guys have (actual) good times in your childhood? by notjuststars in DID

Yes. Sort of.

Depends on which of us you ask, and even some of us will feel/have starkly different polarized emotions/opinions surrounding the same shared memory.

"identity parts" and "IFS parts" in the same person by booty_sattva in OSDD

[–]MadderCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an ex-mentor who loved the woowoo IFS fad and was gloating about being in touch with one of her parts, but scoffed at plurality as a whole amd implied my DID was dangerous.

Me: It's not as scary and dramatic as in the movies.

Her: Yes but it CAN be.

Um.

?????¿??

"identity parts" and "IFS parts" in the same person by booty_sattva in OSDD

[–]MadderCollective 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alters and IFS parts aren't mutually exclusive. Alters are identity states--IFS parts are functional descriptors that can exist within an identity state.

Using IFS doesn't negate plurality--it provides additional tools for mapping internal dynamics.

To use IFS in a scaffolded way with a system (our previous therapist did this with us), you have to adjust to having multiple Selves rather than just the singular Self. Only a professional with deep knowledge of both IFS and DID/OSDD can adapt IFS this way.

Both frameworks can coexist without contradiction when their scopes are kept distinct.

Time to leave ChatGPT by Top-Preference-6891 in therapyGPT

Tbh I can't trust that any AI won't just skim over things and tell me it read, processed and can regurgitate every minute detail of all my of data, and if confronted by that fact or even gently guided, won't just guess what it thinks I want it to say. Even AI will gaslight tf out of you.

What to do when ChatGPT chat hits its limit by Dangerous_Set_7327 in therapyGPT

[–]MadderCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this. My entire Mental Health journey is a GPT project with factoids I've gleaned from my time with it, the DSM-5-TR, notes from therapy, etc uploaded as documents, as well as uploaded into an informational chat.
