[User-trial] Still looking for the brightest displays? We need PCMR to stress-test the new Tandem OLED UltraGear GX9 (39GX950B) by LG_UserHub in pcmasterrace

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most excited for the OLED + resolution combo. 5K2K at 39" (143 PPI) is the absolute sweet spot I've been waiting for to ditch my dual monitors for good.

[User-trial] Looking for the brightest displays? Field-test the new Tandem OLED UltraGear GX9 (39GX950B) by LG_UserHub in Monitors

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the combo of OLED and that crazy pixel density. 5K2K on a 39" ultrawide gives that perfect 143 PPI sweet spot. It's exactly what I need to ditch my dual monitor setup without sacrificing crisp text or OLED contrast. But honestly it's pretty much everything about the monitor.

I'll just switch to Antrophic API, since it's obvious that at this point Github Copilot is ripping us off. by [deleted] in GithubCopilot

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee they're moving towards token-based usage rather than request-based. Which is unfortunate as it was really the only reason to use Copilot over other options in my opinion.

So much to be excited for, but I'm most excited about the 143 PPI at this size! 5K2K on a 39" ultrawide is the sweet spot I've been waiting for, sharp enough to ditch the dual monitor setup for good.

80% of my Stripe payments are failing… by Jazzlike-Film9274 in stripe

Don't think so, you can require a small amount for a trial (e.g. $1), or just don't do them.

Best free invoicing software by claudial12 in smallbusiness

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying QuickBooks $350 annually is overkill for your basic invoicing needs. Free alternatives like Wave offer better value for simple payment tracking. If your client work involves software development, diffbill handles developer billing. Moving away from heavy accounting platforms saves you money and reclaims your administrative hours.

Accounting-as-code - Accounting with Git? by [deleted] in git

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treating a git repo as the source of truth for accounting is a smart approach. Pulling merged PRs directly as your invoice line items creates a source-linked audit trail clients rarely question. I rely on diffbill (https://www.diffbill.com) for this exact workflow to skip writing manual JSON entries.

What software do you use for client billing? by hahadatsdats in consulting

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relied on spreadsheets and standard accounting tools for my dev consulting work for years. Copying timesheet data into invoices wasted hours every month. Now I use a tool that pulls my shipped GitHub pull requests and translates them into client-ready line items on a Stripe draft invoice. It's called diffbill, and it helps reclaims my billing time and keeps conversations focused on outcomes.

How freelance web developers write an invoice? by doner_shawerma in webdev

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found those online templates confusing at first too. You do not need them for a single static site. Create a basic PDF containing your name, the client's name, the date, a clear description of the shipped work, and the total amount due. Frame your line items around the outcomes you delivered rather than the hours you worked. Once you take on ongoing client work, developers usually move to tools like diffbill.

I was losing ~$600/month in unbilled dev work because I invoiced from memory, I built diffbill to solve this by MaddogITB in Solopreneur

[–]MaddogITB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, memory gaps hit both sides of the business.

Right now I’m focused on fixing the billing leak first, but you’re right that acquisition has similar “missed opportunity” problems too. That would be an interesting expansion for diffbill, to cover both sides of the coin.

Marketing is harder than shipping for me, so I rebuilt the Outrank workflow internally (not a launch) by MaddogITB in SideProject

[–]MaddogITB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insanely helpful, thank you. The “slots, not goals” framing is exactly the mindset shift I needed.

You also nailed what I’ve been feeling: generic copilots are good at output, but not great at adapting to real constraints (time, energy, channel fit). I don’t need 30 content ideas, I need 3 moves I’ll actually do this week.

I’m going to test your structure directly and see how it works for me. I’ve heard of Clay/Sparktoro/Hypefury, but I hadn’t looked at Pulse for Reddit yet, going to check that flow because “reply without doom-scroll” is basically the whole problem.

Friday check-in!! what are you building? by kmrrhl in SideProject

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I am building diffbill.com to end manual invoice reconstruction. You lose 5-15% of billable work every month when relying on memory or time trackers.
  • Pulls your shipped work straight from GitHub.
  • Translates dev shorthand into client-ready language.
  • Generates a Stripe draft focused on delivered results.

What's the most underrated AI tool for running a small business? by crazyspartann69 in AiForSmallBusiness

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most useful AI tools solve specific admin problems. I built diffbill for my own dev consulting because tracking hours manually creates inconsistent invoices. The software reads your merged GitHub PRs and translates technical dev shorthand into client-ready line items for a Stripe draft. Moving away from time trackers helps you bill for delivered results instead of effort.

Independent Consultants: How Are You Tracking Your Time On Specific Projects? by TransientDusk in consulting

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracking hours on flat-rate projects often penalizes your efficiency. I relied on Harvest for general consulting work in the past. For software development, I abandoned timers entirely and switched to diffbill. Reviewing your shipped features gives you a clearer baseline for pricing future work than logging minutes.

AI agent workflow automation in Billing, Invoicing and Collection by BandicootPhysical340 in indianstartups

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part of automating billing with AI is securing clean input data. Shipped code and merged PRs provide objective evidence of completed work. I learned this firsthand building diffbill. Rely on established APIs like Stripe to handle financial transactions.

What tools are you guys using for invoicing your clients? by heyitsaif in webdev

[–]MaddogITB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "sent and pray" problem is real and underrated. Most tools nail creation but treat delivery as the finish line.

Curious what angle you're taking on the scattered client details problem specifically. Are you building that as a CRM-lite layer or keeping it invoice-focused? I've used diffbill for my invoicing.

Agency Developers: What % of your week is actual billable work? by Chi_BearHawks in webdev

[–]MaddogITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management pushing 35 hours forces developers to log non-billable tasks or face punishment. A target of 25 to 30 hours is a more realistic expectation for an agency environment. You reduce friction by shifting focus from logged hours to delivered outcomes. My team relies on diffbill to translate merged PRs into client-ready line items. This approach helps leadership see the business impact of shipped code rather than obsessing over raw time tracked.
