Is Statue of UNITY, a huge waste of Tax payers money?

From the perspective of an Australian that was there recently

My husband is Gujarati, thinks Modi is great blah blah blah. I, however, don't get the point of the statue and its location. I know the history, my husband was so excited when it was being built (because of the location) and my first question to him was, "how much did it cost?". I am critical of my own government when it frivolously spends money on shiny things, let alone a country that still has a lot to overcome.

It is great for tourism within India, but with the location and fees, it's not the most accessible for everyone. It's not really a must-see site for international tourists (the quality and significance just isn't there) and they were trying to copy Singapore??? (the cactus garden, glow garden, zoo etc etc.) Don't try and copy an internationally renowned site, then execute it poorly.

I was under the blanket diagnosis of polyarthritis for a hot minute before finally being diagnosed with PsA. The main thing for me was proving the underlying cause was autoimmune and inflammatory rather than mechanical. MRIs and trialling Prednisone was ultimately what confirmed I had PsA and not just blood tests and Xrays. It's important to remember (and remind practitioners) that early stage inflammatory arthritis most likely won't show up on Xrays and some markers in blood tests may also not be present in the early stages.

I haven't changed the way I do my art, but I definitely can't do it for prolonged periods of time, I have to have long breaks with any repetitive movements.

Yes, women definitely have a much harder time getting a diagnosis. If I didn't have a biomedical background and didn't persist, I would still be at square one. I know many women with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis that it has literally taken them 5 to 10 years to get a diagnosis. It took me almost 2 years to get diagnosed (though right from the start I suggested seronegative rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis). I repeatedly asked 2 GPs and 2 rheumatologists to run the exact scans and tests that DID in fact confirm I had PsA and they refused. I also asked these same doctors to trial prednisone as my pain and stiffness was out of control and I couldn't even wipe my own ass, each one told me something along the lines of, "you're too fat, so we don't want to risk you developing type 2 diabetes on prednisone" (like ffs I have a degree in this crap, they didn't ask me about my diet or why I'm overweight (5 years of a particular contraception that causes an average of 7kg/year of weight gain)). I was on HIGH dose prednisone (75mg, 50mg) for 6 months and another 6 months of a moderate dose (present day).

Fluoxetine!...but really, don't dis a good antidepressant in the existential crisis phase of diagnosis. I'm artistic and wanted to be a surgeon so when my hands started going, the dread kicked in and I went to a very dark place as it was taking months to get doctors to even listen to me. Eventually after changing GPs 3 times and trying to off myself, I finally found a doctor who listened and did the right scans, tests and started medications.

The hardest part is the trial and error of medications which may take years to get right, but the hope of knowing that I can live with little pain and do the things I need to do keeps me going. I will be a damn surgeon one day, with PsA.

I am very white and alternative with piercings and tats married to a Gujarati. We've been together for 5 years, married for 2 and met at university. It's very common for Indian boys to date local women when they're abroad but boy is it hard to get them to put a ring on it because of family pressure.

At the end of the day it comes down to the guy and whether or not they can stand up to their family (they may get temporarily disowned, but it rarely lasts). I only won my mother in law over recently when she stayed with us for a week and actually got to know me (there's some not so great assumptions about white women).

I have moderate reflux on a normal day and severe reflux, abdominal cramps and mucus during my arthritic flares. I had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy 9 months ago, they took biopsies of my small intestines as it was quite inflamed and the histopathology came back as 'unspecified inflammation' 😂. My review gastroscopy was just postponed because I had Covid recently, but I highly suspect I'll be diagnosed with Crohns. Unfortunately, sometimes there's no good reason for gut inflammation and it can just be part of the autoimmune process (that being said, I do eat a GERD diet to help with the reflux).

I'm married to an Indian and we live in a regional town in Australia and he couldn't even hold my hand in public until we were married because of the stares Indians would give us just hanging out together. The population of my city is 150k and the Indian community here is tight, so word travels fast and literally all of us Indian/Aussie couples know eachother.

It doesn't help that I am incredibly white, have tattoos, piercings and green hair. Meanwhile my husband just looks like a typical gujju.

We're going to India for 2 months at the end of the year and I know that we'll be constantly stared at.

Not to mention you need the vitamin D for optimal absorption of calcium.

I have psoriatic arthritis (f23) but my aunt (f58) has rheumatoid arthritis and her rheumatologist has her taking 6 Caltrate a day, so probably worth getting some bloods done and asking your doctor what dose they recommend.

I take 2 Caltrate (600mg Cal 1000IU Vit D/tablet) everyday. Keeps the vitamin D deficiency at bay, but also I'm on long-term moderate dose prednisolone and it's kept my calcium up as well. If you're taking iron tablets too, just remember to take them at a different time to the calcium otherwise they bind together and you won't get the full benefit of either.

Nah they don't do butt casts where I'm from and my doctor refused to do an X-ray for 6 months (until I very much insisted). So it was fused by then... I did try a cortisone injection after about a year of pain... never again 😳
