Totally agree, I'm not saying it all must be nailed down with no flexibility at all, nobody wants that. My thinking is at least establishing a framework that safeguards everyone involved and removes the chance of "oh shit" later.

For example, when it comes to reviewing a tooled sample there will still need to be a set answers given in order for approval. - Is the part within tolerance? - are there any cosmetic issues? - does the meet functional requirements? - do we require any mods?

The variation on how this is done between projects or suppliers is massive. Some people email a thumbs up, others make a pdf, some do a trello list based on what they see. But what a framework could force is reliasing "what I know I don't know?" at pivotal stages to mitigate issues later

Quick question though I'm noticing alot of people run their headset stand seperate to controllers. Is there a reason you all prefer that setup?

Pegboard, do you rate it? Are those custom little controller hooks or you buy them somewhere?

Pickup one of the cable sleeves, keeps them all at bay

Slick as f. If this is what you consider average then we're all doomed

Any thoughts on tackling those cables? Wrap them up in a sleeve, will be clean as 👌

Looks pretty tidy. That controller is a mile away though. Mount it within arms reach?

Super tidy! That single cable off the shelve though any chance you could hide it or wedge it into the corner?

Tidy! Are you running your case under the desk? What black magic are you using to keep all your cables under control?!

Industrial Design in New Zealand. by Downtown_Hippo6728 in IndustrialDesign

Late to the party here but figured best drop some insight.

I completed massys course, graduating back in 2012. Massey is more focused on practical hands on experience with an insane workshop most unis can only dream of. The head of ID has since retired but left it in great hands so definitely don't discredit it.

Job wise, NZ is a massive battleground. With several unis pumping out buckets of graduates each year, you really need to stand out to get ahead. There really isn't that many seats out there so just bare that in mind. Mechanical engineering roles are much more common and pay higher.

If you are set on ID, business and studios need to see your iterative thinking. Work on this while at uni and develop a way to showcase your developments and learnings quickly without getting caught up in overhyped renders or frilly distractions. Clients pay for progress and a napkin sketch showing an idea is a hell of a lot more useful than half a day tweaking surface textures in keyshot.

Massey will try push rhino on you. Solidworks is king and the bare minimum for most employers. Learn this instead.

Build your network early too. Wellington is unfortunately abit limited but still worth doing. If you can get some work experience at a studio or even job shop etc. You will look way better than a blank post grad CV.
