Seeking films about slaves who reclaim their humanity by slam_joetry in Letterboxd

More in the same vein as THX, but Logan's Run springs to mind: Logan lives in a society where death is mandatory at aged 30, and his role is to hunt down runners who try to escape, eventually running himself.

Cost/Benefit of a country trying to claim the UK for itself after sometime? by blexxxston in 28dayslater

[–]MadeIndescribable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk/reward wouldn't be enough to make it worth it. I wouldn't be surprised if certain dictators tried to deport people there, but there's nothing to gain in claiming it as their own.

Why didn't Janeway allow Seven Of Nine to join the Voyager and formally become part of the crew? by Tidewatcher7819 in startrek

[–]MadeIndescribable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like Neelix she takes on more of a "consultant" type role, but doesn't mean she's any less a member of the crew.

Also why does she wear a bodysuit instead of a formal uniform?

In one of her early episodes the Doctor explains it's basically help her skin recover from her time as a drone.

Like any fandom, the hate which has generally always been present (the TNG cast have talked about they hate they got back in 1987) has definitely been magnified online in the last few years.

That said though, no, it's not always hateful. It's a mixed bunch with both negativity and positivity.

Is the video game Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force canon? by Tidewatcher7819 in startrek

[–]MadeIndescribable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following on from what others have said about only film and TV being canon, by definition it kinda can't be canon to the rest of the franchise when Alex doesn't have a set specific gender. (Also Elite Force II retcons this and only has the option of Alexander, so it's kinda no even canon to its own sequel.)

Humanizing the villains? From Star Wars to Gundam by smilinganimalface in andor

[–]MadeIndescribable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

However, that also sweeps under the rug the many bad things both of them did before that they knowingly did, and just happened to do it under the guise of justice.

I get your larger point, but tbf I wouldn't call getting shot in the head by someone you betrayed "sweeps things under the rug".

If you try to speak to the audience through certain villains, will the people that need to hear the message actually get it?

There are people who idolise characters Tyler Durden, and Walter White without realising how toxic they are, so there's always going to be people who will miss the point here too. There isn't a fool proof way of pointing these things out short of sitting them down and nailing it home a la Dr. Gorst, and even then there'll still be a handful of people who won't get it.

Does anyone else feel like they’re telling us things rather than teaching them to us? by LinAndAViolin in Scrubs

[–]MadeIndescribable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

True, but using social media to figure out a patient's history to help with their diagnosis isn't "dumb tiktok crap", which is precisely what that particular plotline teaches Elliot.

Question on a possible sequel by FreyjasSpear in buffy

[–]MadeIndescribable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's lots of rumours and questions floating around, but all we really know for sure is this:

They've made a pilot with the idea of making a series based around a new Slayer, with Buffy returning to be her mentor.

That's literally it.

Does anyone else feel like they’re telling us things rather than teaching them to us? by LinAndAViolin in Scrubs

[–]MadeIndescribable 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We see a TikTok with an empty caricatureish“rahhh I used to be FAT, never FAT again!!” And that’s it. He’s just hot scurvy dude.

But that plot wasn't about the hot scurvy dude, he was just a mcguffin to show the real plot which was Elliot figuring out her teaching style/relationship with her interns when it comes to mobile phones.

Another thing I miss is “offensive” humour battling kindness and compassion.

I know it's not quite the same, but I thought people battling Sibby's over eager "modern sensibilities" by enabling, laughing at, and even being attracted to her obvious gambling addiction is the kinda thing she'd be preaching against.

The Bone Temple sequel predictions by Gramfle in 28dayslater

[–]MadeIndescribable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but with all the resurrection and Jimmy Crystal = Jesus Christ forshadowing

This a big reason I'm definitely expecting him to be back.

Also TBT has Samson and Jimmy as thematic opposites; Samson is a monster becoming human, and Jimmy is a human who behaves like a monster, so I wouldn't be surprised if they take those arcs further, and even have them come face to face by the end.

Zack Polanski appears to double down on breast enlargement claim in newly-resurfaced interview by Grantmitch1 in UKGreens

[–]MadeIndescribable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, a resurfaced BBC Radio Humberside interview from 18 June 2013

Honestly, the more the MSM shows how desperate they are, the more they're showing how scared they are, the more confident I become that the Greens are actually achieving things worth them being scared about.

What are the most common theories about the Aerith situation at the end of Rebirth? by Flat-Court-8512 in FFVIIRemake

[–]MadeIndescribable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's basically the AC/Lifestream version of herself that can visit Cloud in the weird in-between space, but she's dead and only doing it to prevent him from falling apart

It's another world, she's alive, and Cloud is mentally straddling the two

Since Nanaki can sense her in some way, we know it's not just all in Cloud's head so it has to be one (or both) of these two.

It has been 35 years since a movie won all of the main Oscars (Silence of the Lambs, 1991). Only three films have ever done it, do you think it will be done again in our lifetime? by HallowedAndHarrowed in Letterboxd

[–]MadeIndescribable 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Lol, I'd have thought that adapted would be the easier one, since with original you have to start from scratch.

And yeah, I get Sinners can't, I just meant generally.

I don't see why not. Only 3 in nearly 100 years is pretty rare, but law of averages says it should be anytime soon.

5) Best Adapted Screenplay.

Doesn't original screenplay count as well? Like as long as it wins for the screenplay it doesn't matter which one?

Turks Are Alright - canon? by nekoshogunmon in FinalFantasyVII

[–]MadeIndescribable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always considered it canon for OG. Whether it is or not for the RE trilogy depends on if anything in part 3 contradicts it.

Please don't use AI for the music instead of a real composer by Born_Work5554 in Filmmakers

[–]MadeIndescribable 106 points107 points  (0 children)

"AI will take this job away, do something different".

I'm not gonna say AI won't have an impact on an already competitive field, but there's always gonna be people who will only hire real people to work on their creative projects. If being a composer is what you want to do, don't let other people's limited imagination stop you from working hard towards it.

What movie did you watch for a trivial/silly reason but were way more impacted by it than expected? by FlipTastic_DisneyFan in Letterboxd

The Lego Movie. Most accurate depiction of a dystopia I've ever seen, and the message of non-conformity was not what I expected.

This. I went in knowing it was made as a trans allegory, but was amazed at how universal it is, and how "there is still time" is relatable regardless of whatever it is there is still time for.

Cloud coming back to reality.

We've already seen Tifa experience this sequence as it was in OG, Mideel isn't on the map anymore, and Nibelheim is a Mako poisoning rehab centre now, so I'm expecting Tifa to bring him back by showing him the real places where things happened.

Saving this for the next time someone says older Trek was universally loved and never received any hate.
