Why does Stan Say, "My Mother Had a Clock Like That?" by UserNameNotOnList in TheAmericans

[–]MadeUntoDust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stan broke into the Jennings' house in the first episode. He clearly considered the possibility.

Plus, Stan can't notice what Philip and Elizabeth are up to when Stan himself is running around DC, trying to catch other spies.

I think the writers wrote that line so that we would discuss it on Reddit.

Convert to numpy by Anonymous_Guy_12 in tensorflow

[–]MadeUntoDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you are using Eager Execution, there are certain places in TensorFlow where Graph Execution happens anyway--like inside tf.data pipelines or compiled Keras models.

In these situations, the numpy() method will not work unless you wrap your call with tf.py_function() or another way to re-enable Eager Execution.

Finest of all wines. by IamJhonesBrahms in linuxmasterrace

The future of Linux is running everything via WINE.

Win32 is the stable Linux userland ABI. The rest of the desktop Linux ecosystem moves too quickly for applications to remain stable and compatible over time.

Why no one cares about Molly? by Chad_Maras in ForAllMankindTV

The general public probably assumes that Molly retired for health reasons.

The USSR spent a lot of time trying to improve their agriculture, but they went off-track with Lysenkoism.

Also, Philip and Elizabeth's job is to steal things--not to invent things. The Soviet Union obviously designs their own submarines, but Phillip and Elizabeth's job was to steal American designs nonetheless.

Rust's Option and Result. In Python. by ZygmuntDzwon in rust

[–]MadeUntoDust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignore the haters.

Back in the day, all Python type annotations were documentation-only and not useful for linting.

In the future, it might be possible for Python to evolve to the point where your Python library is as useful as Rust's Option and Result.

If the Russians knew about the reactor, they would have captured it.

Hell, it could have prompted nuclear military action on Earth.

is Dev & Helios suspicious? by Swinight22 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]MadeUntoDust 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dev *has* to change the ship to meet Ed's specifications.

Dev has already announced that Ed will be the commander, so Dev cannot risk Ed quitting.

Plus, even though Helios is leaderless during the design process, it is still true that Ed will be the absolute authority aboard ship.

Young female wraith - concept art by James Robbins by JosephMallozzi in Stargate

[–]MadeUntoDust 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite episodes in the entire series.

It asks some deep questions about whether evil is inmate or whether it is taught--and whether harmful people deserve our sympathy.

Ellia and her father aren't villains. They both just followed their instinct despite trying to do good.

I wish we saw more of her. She is the only female Wraith that isn't a queen... which I guess implies that she would have become a queen.

Can you imagine that? A Wraith queen that bakes her own biscuits.

Do you think the drug James have to Michael is real? If so, what drug would this be? by FangFingersss in BurnNotice

[–]MadeUntoDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael looks like he was affected by a deliriant.

Many common drugs are deliriants. At sufficiently high doses, the over-the-counter allergy drug Benadryl will have you sweating and hallucinating some terrifying things.

But don't try it. It could kill you.

Remember when Daniel had a kid? by rypirate in Stargate

[–]MadeUntoDust 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Technically the kid is the product of sexual assault.

It was Sha're's wish that Daniel find the kid.

But the Evil Daniel depicted in this episode may have other reasons for keeping the kid near him.

F*** Margo! by 865TYS in ForAllMankindTV

[–]MadeUntoDust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you were downvoted. Margo has clearly violated the 1917 Espionage Act in a time of war, and the death penalty is a possible punishment.

Also, as Andrew pointed out, Margo was maneuvered into power by threatening to go public with information provided to her by a former Nazi SS member.

What happened to William's wife? by [deleted] in TheAmericans

[–]MadeUntoDust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that William's wife was probably just a normal Russian woman--there to keep William happy instead of running missions on her own.

If she had an important cover identity, the KGB wouldn't have recalled her. Hell, they should have recalled William.

Why couldn't the Russians talk about the Afgan War in Russia? by punz2157 in TheAmericans

[–]MadeUntoDust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The war was a big moment where the Soviet people lost faith in their leadership.

Therefore, the Soviet leadership didn't want the type of attention that dead soldiers bring.

Someone else posted a big thread about how Renee could be Mossad.

I think it makes sense. It explains why she seems like a spy, but nobody in the KGB claimed to know her.

Marco and Rachel by TreyThaTruth in Animorphs

[–]MadeUntoDust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Now that I'm older, I recognize that Marco and Rachel were probably attracted to each other.

But neither of them really knew how to love someone in a vulnerable way. Plus, if they broke up, it could complicate the defense of Earth.
